Cellphone service
Yahoo Message Number: 136064
I have been using Verizon for years. However, since it appears that it only gets more expensive I keep looking for alternatives.
We have not used a smartphone up to this point and use a Millenicom data card on the VZ network.
I recently learned of a prepaid company that seems to have been operating for about a year. It is ting.com
It operates on the Sprint network but roams on verizon as well as some other carriers. The coverage map seems very good in comparison with verizon and what I like is the way you pay for what you get.
You are charged $6 per month for access for each phone. Then you pick a plan for voice, text and data. I selected the lowest package which is $0 for each. So they charge you the $6 and then at the end of the billing cycle they charge you based on the quantity used.
If you select a higher amount, which I see no reason to do, they will credit you if you used less than what you paid for.
They get great reviews for service. I had to call a few times. They answer in less than 30 seconds and the person that answers is the person that handles your question.

Plans are easy to understand.
Of course, you buy the phone although there are a few on the list of BYOD.
Since we are stationary for a few months actual coverage remains to be seen.
The only drawback I have seen so far is that the phone I bought doesn't have the ability to force roaming. They are also android only at this stage.
Currently you can find a $50 discount code on a new phone or $50 credit if you buy a refurb, which I did.
If anyone is interested I can probably find the discount code or a link.
My starting charge was for the $6, no other fees than typical cell taxes.

By the way the discount drops to $25 on Jan 15, I think.
