Mystery light (?) switch in stairwell
Yahoo Message Number: 135550
Just picked up our new to us rig last week. Ran Macon to Milwaukee, in  six lazy days. Quicksilver is an extremely well-kept 1998 FD, and we're feeling sassy and proud.  But what is the little switch in the lower right hand of the stairwell for? Not the patio or kitchen dome light... on the other side.  Could it be a pre-wired switch for an electric step? Could we use it for, I dunno', something else?? (Joe is an electrician.)

Thanks,
Liz R.

Liz, on my 2003 this switch(on the right by the lower door) turns on a light directly above the middle of the rig but somewhat towards the rear area up on the ceiling. On the rear bath model is directly above the kitchen. The light fixture is about 4x6 inches in size. The purpose of the light is to give you some visibility inside as you enter in the dark. The bulb may be burnt out in your case. I believe the bulb is an 1141. Take care, john leach, Larkspur, Co.

John, No,I don't think that's it, 'cause on our 23.5'FD there is a switch for the ceiling kitchen light as you describe, but it is located right next to the "patio light", on the lower left side of the stairwell, near the bottom.
Anybody else have an idea?

Liz

I have the similar 24 Front Lounge (2011) and I have three switches on the left of stairwell.  Outside light, step, and kitchen dome light (L to R).  No switch on right.  I'm sure if this was factory switch installed on left side, someone here will know what it is.  If it's aftermarket switch is there a way to contact previous owner?  Is your refrigerator backed up to the switch on the right?  Can you see anything from the outside fridge compartment access?

Oops-

Wrote this by mistake:

I meant right side in this sentence.

Is there an edit function I'm not aware of?

No edit function on Yahoo, they make no errors and expect the same from their users ; Port, Starboard, Fore & Aft takes care of the left right confusion.

The plot thickens.  The two switches to the aft side of the bottom stairwell (thanks, River) control a)the patio and the stairwell light, and,  b)the kitchen overhead dome light, respectively.  The switch  in question strongly looks factory, due to the little brass decorative surround.  However, it does share a wall w. the fridge.  What would that be for, I wonder? (I'll peek into the ext. fridge panel when I go to armor all her in storage.) I have the original owner's name/phone, but hesitate to bug him about something so minor (we're actually the fifth owners of this superclean rig!!).
Anybody w. a 1998 FD out there?
