Generator Leaking Gas
Yahoo Message Number: 135528
I have a 2008 LD with an Onan 4K generator that has a slow gas leak (drip) onto the cement.
A local RV repair shop has worked on it twice.  First time he said the brackets holding the fuel filter were loose and replaced them.  Problem still there.   The second time he said the fuel line was faulty and replaced it.  Problem still there.  Yes, I can go to him again, but would first like to ask this group for your advice as to what might be causing this problem.
Then I could at least have some knowledge to share with the repair tech who, incidentally, says he is an Onan trained repair tech.   Help!    Gale

Sounds like inadequate diagnostic work is leading to a shotgun approach by the tech. If the RV shop won't refund what they charged you, then get as much info as possible before going back to them for what should be a free repair. For instance, where under the rig (precisely) is the gas dripping? Which way and how much off-level is the rig when this happens? Can you leave the rig parked at the shop until the dripping is noticeable? If the infamous hose above the gas tank were the culprit, the gas from a slow leak would likely evaporate before it runs down the gas line to drip.
If the shop is still baffled, then I would visit the Onan on-line site and look for a factory-authorized tech for their RV generators, in your area.

--- Has the cause (and solution) of the leak been diagnosed? If so, please post the outcome; thanks.

I'm with Steve on this one.
We had our ONAN serviced this past year. The shop did an oil and fuel filter change. At which point it developed a slow gas leak into the pan and onto the cement through weep holes in the mounting pan. It took three attempts to fix. It was most annoying. At the third attempt for the shop to repair, the owner got involved himself to find the leak just after the filter and it was slow enough that in the shop lot one couldnt tell. Sitting overnight it would show up.
In the mean time, I did set up an appointment elsewhere and was prepared to do battle to get my costs recovered and the job done right. I was happy I didnt have to go there in the end.
What I can understand is that the area is tight and very hard to wrench in. But that doesnt wash when you are paying for a shop to do it right the first time.

Hope this helps.

Lydia:   Thanks for the input on your Onan generator gas leak.   My leak is almost exactly as you described yours.  There is a Cummins/Onan repair facility near me and I have an appointment next week with a guy who does nothing except repair Onan generators.   I will pass along your info to him, and post any useful information for the group.    Gale
