Bath latch repair November 11, 2012, 08:44:27 am Yahoo Message Number: 135047Hi folks, I know I can replace the bath door latch, but has anyone tried to disassemble it to repair it? Ours works from the inside, it just won't completely withdraw the catch very well when we depress the outside "button".Thanks. Ken '09 MB Lucy

Ours works from the inside, it just won't completely withdraw the catch very well when we depress the outside "button". In our 2002 MB, the button on the outside of the bathroom door has a long plastic "stem" that pushes against the latch mechanism on the inside of the door. This rather fragile part can break, especially if you have something causing the latch to bind. It is a good idea to get into the habit of pushing in on the door before depressing the button. Newer and/or older models may have used a different latch. Our first one broke while we we on an extended trip. I had to unscrew the hinges to get the door open. When i found that the button's stem had broken nearly in two, I used a couple of broken toothpick pieces to "splint" the stem, gluing with superglue. The latch comes apart easily with two screw on the inside part. My jury-rigged fix actually lasted a long time. I finally was able to get a replacement button from the factory. The factory used to sell just the button part. I expect that they carried that part because of frequent failure.Hope this helps, Art

Newer and/or older models may have used a different latch. On our '04 FL, the inside latch stem for the bath door is in the cabin entryway when the door is fully open, as it is most of the time. Unfortunately, the stem is at the perfect height for me to snag the sleeve of my t-shirt almost every time I exit the rig. This would eventually have either broken the stem, ripped a shirt, or caused a fall.... or maybe all the above. My solution was to build an angled snag-guard out of a roughly triangular scrap of hardwood, and screwed into the door just forward of the stem. No snags since, and it does not impede the door or latch operation.Steve
