How does the silver paint hold up?

Hi,

When we bought our last LD we were warned that the silver exterior paint was more prone to chip or flake off. Anyone have experience with this actually happening?

Nope. Have a 1994 LD and none of the above has happened.

Michael,

Our 9 year old silver LD still looks more or less like new, as do several others I know of that vintage. Regular waxing is the key and it helps if you can somehow store it out of the sun, good treatment for any color motorhome. I think silver holds up as well as any other color.
The only paint problem we've had is with fading of the front faux windows, which I hope to get repainted at the factory

I did lots of research on this myself and was comfortable enough to select this color when we put our order on this week.

Three years ago we bought a 2004 RB with silver/grey paint. Personally we had never been fond of the silver color scheme, but when buying a used rig, color drops quite a ways down the priority list when the rig is otherwise equipped exactly the way one wants it...and then some...and

I have a '08 silver MB. I wax frequently.
I have had minor some chipping or peeling, but only on the rings around the locks for the cargo compartments. The rings below the paint are shiny chrome or stainless, and I am sure this contributed to reduced surface bonding.
I have had no chipping or peeling whatsoever on the general body sections.

Silver was our first color choice when we ordered in 2007. Steve counseled us that we might have problems with it. We were puzzled as to why they offered a color they did not recommend. We opted for our second choice.

We have seen two silver rigs that had bubbles in the paint. But, we have no idea if the formula for silver paint had anything to do with it.

Maybe for a $50,000 up charge, he might paint it red and silver.
But, I really would not bet on it.
If I were ordering now, I would explore the topic with Steve. No one here knows more about Lazy Daze than the Mothership.

I think that's true regardless of color--my red rig has the same issue.

John: We had a silver 2002 for 6 years and now have a silver 2008. Never any problems with chipping or flaking. Ed Newton at Lazy Daze always used to caution people against the silver paint because it faded more than the others. We have not experienced this problem...just keep it waxed!. Gale

Mine actually is three tone w/ silver, metallic dark gray, and white. The dark gray does get quite hot

Andy, please excuse my ignorance,( I don't have a LD, yet) but what did you mean by "The paint dosen't like to stick to the plastic."? What 'plastic'? The paint job that I like is that silver/ charcole. Now your scaring me that I'm gonna be having trouble with the paint. ( I know, they don't let me out too off then...) Gene, Da gonna B Oh! excuse me...Thank you for clearing this up for me. Like I said, Please excuse my ignorance...

I was responding to Ted Houghton's comment:
"But as to your question of chipping or flaking, I have seen none of that except on some of the compartment door handles and the frame around the sewer hose holder door. The paint doesn't like to stick to the plastic."

I've seen similar flaking around my compartment door locks, and at the edges of plastic fixtures such as the the sewer hose door, the outside shower, and the city water filler door. Nothing to get excited about, just a few small chips where there's less than perfect adhesion.

Anything that sits outdoors I do every 8 weeks or so with the Professional Detailer. Water beads vigorously for that long at least, usually longer (
