group size, and battery related question

Andy, just how many LD owners are on the list now?

The reason I'm inquiring is because I'm in a discussion with the repair shop that has my LD back in to fix the many details they missed the first time around. When I got the rig back in late August, after them having it for three months, both my 6volts were fried...totally sulfated, bulging, boiling and lacking sufficient water. I had called them three times to ask that they be sure and check the water, as temps. here were over 110 and higher for most of that time period. It was HOT here!

I am insisting that barely 4 yr. old T-105's DO NOT automatically fail due to age. They are saying that these rarely last more than three years, especially in the AZ environment. There is MY fact that these have only been in this area for a little over a year.
All the shared information I've read from others on this list is that expecting at least five years and up to seven, or even to older is NOT out of the ordinary. Indeed, it was the norm here on the list.
And yes, I have religiously kept up on my maintenance. Automatically check water on the 1st of every month. I have the PI three stage smart converter, and when here it was on shore power w/the HPV22B controller.

I am looking for supporting statements from other LD owners on the life time of properly maintained batteries. Up until the accident, I had a Link 10 monitor, and never let the batteries discharge below the 50% level.
I will show the results to the ins. agent who is handling my dealings with this shop. Thanks all.

Gini, I replaced my batteries after 5 years and they were still in perfect shape. I was taking a long trip and wanted to be sure I had good bats for that trip otherwise I would not have done that. Current bats are 5 yrs old and charging just fine.

I replaced my t-105's after 5 years. They were still working but getting weaker. I bought my LD just 2 months before replacing so have no idea if the maintenance was done properly. The only time I have heard of T-105's being replaced after 3 years is in a commercial application where they are constantly being drained past 50% capacity.
BTW if you can get a good price on the taller t-145's you might consider the upgrade. A little more capacity and they fit 2001 battery compartment.

The number of members is always shown on the group's homepage at lower left. Currently we have 4,850 members.
I'm so sorry to hear that you're still having problems, Gini. With regard to your batteries, you are exactly correct: with even halfway decent care, T105s should last five to seven years. You'd have to really abuse them to have them die in four years! I'd recommend checking with Trojan for conformation of this. The repair shop may not believe us owners, but they'll find it harder to argue with the battery manufacturer.
