Where else do Americans go for their (mobile) home improvement projects?  Yes, the Home Depot.
In message #129102, I reported on using Philips 12-volt LEDs, available at Home Depot. Here's more.
 Three 3-watt LED spots have been added to the exterior of our LD to provide great night time illumination.

As  mentioned in the previous posting, I compared the LEDs directly to 10 and 20-watt halogen spots (MR-11 bulbs) and found the output to be equal to about 15-watts. Having the twin aircraft-style light fixture made comparisons easy.
 Inside, all of the Lounge lights are LED, with the exception of three fluorescents.

 Two capsule 3-watt LEDs were added to the kitchen fluorescent and have come up with a combination that is a close equivalent to the stock light, reducing the power consumption by about 75%.
A separate switch was added to operate the LEDs. Two small square holes have been cut in the diffuser to let the LEDs shine directly through without the light being reduced in intensity or changed in color.  Being mounted low, under the cabinet, the holes are not visible nor are they unattractive.
The stock fluorescent bulbs were retained and still work.

The Philips capsules have a nice even light pattern, no hot spots, and at $14 each, are a great value. They do require a G4 bi-pin socket.  12-volt pucks lights have the correct base and can accommodate the capsules with trimming, to allow for the capsules larger size. The puck's glass covers usually need to be removed but that's OK since the capsules do not need covers.

 In the bath, two ceiling light fixtures have 3-watt LEDs installed, one warm-white and the other a cool-white, enabling the user to pick the right color or combination of both colors.

 It's nice to be able to light up the whole interior and use the same amount of power as one fluorescent fixture.
 Next energy project is to reduce the electrical appetite of our electronics. The quest continues.

Great information, Larry! I just ordered four of the Philips 3W LED capsules. Home Depot's screwed-up website wouldn't let me place an order, and there's no store nearby, so I ended up having to pay $2 more at Amazon--but they're still a good value. I've been looking a long time for an LED retrofit for halogen puck light fixtures!

Hi Larry,
 I'm curious about the LED mounted on the mirror arm - I'd like to do something like that. Is it a sequential lamp (if so, do you have a source and part #?), and how did you route the wires?

 The electronic strobe has several possible sequences. It has been a few years and I do not remember all of them. Check the link and go to the manufacturer's site for details.
