Batwing failure!
Yahoo Message Number: 129414
Last night we apparently suffered 'batwing failure' - we went from apprx. 26 channels of free TV, to 3. Then to 0. We are in Tucson, and the strange thing is we typically get 3 or 4 channels even with the antenna lying flat on the roof. So, I'm thinking it's the cable from the antenna to the back of the 20" (old style) TV. My QUESTION is, how do I pull that TV out to work on it? We are in our 2003 30'IB, and TV/VCR is securely mounted over the cab. I can't find any access, but a stout little pry bar under it won't budge the unit at all! Am I missing something? PS: our amp is on, the digital box scans endlessly with 0 channels available, and the TV seems ok.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Cheers, Robert Catalina State Park

Robert,
I had a similar problem and had to replace the short coax cable going through the batwing to a connector on the base.  There were normal coax connectors on each end of the cable, so it was no problem to change, although the cable I bought was slightly too long and I had to leave a couple of feet of cable coiled and secured at the base.
I initially checked by connecting a longer coax cable at both ends before I made a more permanent installation.

It is probably not your problem but is worth checking.

Good Luck.

You probably would be better off starting at the other end. The most likely failure will be at the end where the cable is exposed to movement and weather.  There is also a mild chance it is the amplifier inside the batwing itself.
Make sure the connection from the cable to the bat wing antenna is clean, dry and free of corrosion.  Some people have reported the cable being disconnected, broke or corroded

A combo of high winds and driving with batwing up a short distance have left the mast a little floppy. I am puzzled how to access the bolts that secure it. From the roof? Anyone ever had this assembly apart?

Don: We replaced the Batwing with a Jack.  It was a pretty straight forward swap out.  Perhaps I'm missing where it is "flapping?" The mast itself or the batwing?

It is the mast that is "floppy". In winds, you can hear (and see) it moving around a little. It goes up and down with no problems. I am guessing that under the AL cover on the roof it is secured to wood with bolts or screws. If so, how are the bolts accessed?
