Nearing order time - any add-ons to suggest ?
Yahoo Message Number: 129068
Hi all,
We are planning to order our 27' MB LD soon and start fulltiming in August.  I have been trying to research possible factory add-ons that are not listed (aka stealth options)- 'possible' meaning that the mothership will do it if asked.
So far, I have only come up with under the sink T connectors and extra outlets. Please let me know if you have any other suggestions.
In our visit to the factory in January, when asked about extra outlets, Todd said more can be added under the overhead cabinets. I notice many people add extra outlets later near the floor.  Does anyone know a good reason why it is NOT desirable to add them later near the floor - is there a safety concern ?
Thank you all for your good advice.  We have learned a lot here, at the Companion, and by reading Andy's blog, some of his recommended books, and Eureka! 2. We have been researching fulltiming in the RV for more than 3 years, but it is so good to have such specific advice.

Karen

First let me say that "full-timing in August" seems, to me, to be extremely optimistic. Although I haven't a clue what the current LD lead time to delivery is at the factory and since you apparently have not yet placed your order, it might be a good idea to call the mothership and ask how soon you could take delivery of a new coach. It's been a while (2004) since I took delivery but I waited over seven months back then.
As to 'options' you might want to consider deleting the factory awning. Some LD folks swear by the factory awning but I know a lot of LD folks that swear 'at' the factory awning.
I had LD delete their awning in favor of an A&E 9000 which I had added after market. LD not only gave me credit for the deletion but reinforced the mounting points for the as yet to be installed A&E.

That's the kind of consideration common at the Mothership!

Todd suggested waiting til March (although no one specified what part of the month.) And if it's optimistic, well, there are worse things than us living with my mom.  I'm sure there are.

"As to 'options' you might want to consider deleting the factory awning." Thank you, that is definitely something we will consider. I had forgotten that things can be deleted.

We enjoyed our time there, which was about 10 hours in two days. As has been said before, they really do leave you alone to spend quality time with the LDs. And the test drive was so much fun ! Thanks, Karen

NOT as much fun, I'll bet, as when old Ed did the driving in his last years.  Our 2006 drive with him was Mr. Toad's wild ride! We'll never forget the nervous glances the staff shot us as they assisted him into the driver's seat.  They nearly had to assist us out afterwards!  -- Jon & Loni ('06TK "Albatross")

Congrats on your soon to own new Lazy Daze, Karen.  We picked up ours in August 2010 and became happy full timers.  There are only a few things we might do differently.  1. Find out where the seat belted seats will be located and consider additional seat belts if you might have more folks than the standard number of belts on board at any time.  2. Be aware of socket locations and how you will function in the motor home.  You may want to add one or two and/or delete one or two.  We ordered extra ones and rarely use them.  Sorry we didn't have them not install the TV connection in the over cab area but not a big problem.  Don't know about installing after market additional sockets.  3.  If solar is in your future...read the suggestions on this site re. if Lazy Daze should be the ones to install your solar.  We had all our solar done at AM Solar.  4.  We are sorry we got the built-in coffee maker...the steam from it is damaging the wood just above the coffee maker.  5.  We're glad we got the electric step and would not want to have an RV without it (a safety issue for us).  6.  We like the awning that came with the Lazy Daze but we might not be aware of something better.  This is just what we think would work better for us.  Your needs likely will be different.  Look forward to seeing you on the road in your "perfect for you" Lazy Daze.

I don't know if they are still doing it but I would have ordered the switch for the thermostat up by the bunk if I'd known about it.  That way you don't have to get out of bed during a cold night or in the morning - just flip the switch and stay in bed.  Nice!

Hi Karen: I know you asked a different question,  but in regard to options/add-ons, I want to put in a plug for awnings over all the windows.  My current LD (which I bought second hand) has this nice feature.  I've had 7 different RVs over the years, and none of them ever had this nice option.  It's absolutely terrific.
Every window has its own little awning. I can leave the big Lazy Dazy windows wide open all the time, even in the rain.  The awnings also provide a nice feeling of privacy when staying in a park full of campers.  Yesterday it rained off and on all day here in Florida, and it was most pleasant to feel like I was snug as a bug, yet the windows were wide open.

My two cents.  Good luck with your new purchase!
