4 prong to 7 prong March 09, 2012, 01:34:38 pm Yahoo Message Number: 129052I want to change my hitch wiring on my 2011 24' TK LD. If I upgrade to a 7 prong connector will there be Ford chassis wiring there to do it or will I have to wire for the brake seperately?

No NameDear No Name You might start by being a bit more specific! Just what is it you want to do with this "7 Prong" connector???Obviously you consider the four wire connector as less than adequate for your purpose but it would be nice to know what that purpose is. I use a seven terminal connector on both ends of my umbilical cord but my reason has nothing to do with brakes.Steve S. Lazy Bones & Jiggs
Re: 4 prong to 7 prong Reply #2 – March 09, 2012, 05:03:13 pm Yahoo Message Number: 1290547 prong is universal, I seldom see a round 4 prong anywhere. I know, I know LD has been using it for years. I want capabitity and versality. If happen to tow something under 4K with electric brakes I can do so.--"I love the infantry because they are the underdogs. They are the mud-rain-frost-and-wind boys. Re: 4 prong to 7 prong Reply #4 – March 09, 2012, 07:03:07 pm Yahoo Message Number: 129056I have also heard of ground issues with LD's 4 prong wiring. I just wanted to know if anyone knows if the Ford chassis is prewired. I suspect it may be, since there was an optional electric braking package for the 2011 E-450.--"I love the infantry because they are the underdogs. They are the mud-rain-frost-and-wind boys. Not signed Jim or JamesJim I'm still not sure where you are going with this thread but if one reads between the lines you may want to review what Terry Tanner has to say on his Techsnoz site, file section, #s; Article #59, Notice2, RelayDual, Relay FAQ, and RelaySingle2.Something in there may answer the questions I think you're posing. My reason for the use of a *6* wire connector was to have a charge line to the toad battery to prevent draining same while traveling.Steve S. Lazy Bones & Jiggs

Re: 4 prong to 7 prong Reply #7 – April 02, 2012, 04:27:47 pm Yahoo Message Number: 129588All - FYI On the newer E-450 chassis there is factory 7 wires going to the rear (past the differential). One group of 3 wires and another group of 4 side by side. It is realtively easy to find and change the LD factory 4 prong to a more standard 7 prong. I did this for the installation of a Blue Ox base plate and tow bar for our 2012 Fiat 500 Sport (manual transmision) Weighing only 2300 lbs it pulls like a dream. I only needed 4 wires for this application, but the 7 prong connector is more practical
