what are the effects of LD lack of use
Yahoo Message Number: 128747
I am looking at a 2005 LD with only 5000 miles on it. It at first seemed like a great deal until I talked to a mechanic who said I would be taking a big chance buying something that had sat that long (eg deteriorated engine seals, generator seals, A/C seals etc)

Anybody have any experiences or recommendations regarding this?

Thanks

"Anybody have any experiences or recommendations regarding this?"

Greetings,

About a year and a half ago, we bought an '06 with 9500 miles on it.
Still a very few miles for a coach that was over 5 years old. We have had no problems at all. Hadn't been used in about 2 years except to move from storage to the seller's house when we went to see it.
Many people buy RV's and then find they just don't use them as much as they had thought they would.  If the coach has been driven a bit every now and then, I wouldn't consider it to be a problem.  If it has been sitting for the last 4-5 years, certainly there could be an issue or two that might crop up.  Also depends somewhat on how and where it has been stored.  If the price is right and the seller is willing, I would certainly consider taking the coach to a trusted mechanic for evaluation.

Good luck!
Robin

PS  I have a nephew who purchased a 50 year old bus that had been sitting and not even started for 30 years.  He knew he would have problems with seals and such, but had far less than he expected.  It had been well stored!

Fred,

I would determine in what kind of environment the coach was stored, how frequently it was driven and maintenance records.  If it receives a passing grade from a mechanic have all the coach systems evaluated. See the File Section for inspection of used LD's.
At a minimum I would expect the batteries and tires would need replacing as well as all of the fluids.

I'm sure some of the LD Gearheads can add to this.

Good Luck,

My 07 had just over 5k miles when purchased.  It is running fine.  I think I may have to change shocks sooner than most people, but the engine and trans seem to be fine.  The previous (second) owner delt with most of the issues.  The biggist of which was a gummed up generator fuel system. I just went over 9k miles last weekend and there were no spots on the pavement under the RV - though front and rear seals could be at risk and not showing yet. Not many third owners get to double the miles on their RV

I have received the registration information from the Balloon Fiesta organizers so am ready to roll!!!!  If you want to join other Lazy Daze owners in beautiful Albuquerque, then please join us for this year's Balloon Fiesta.  Can you imagine HUNDREDS of balloons flying right over your head so close you could almost touch them?  How about daily get togethers with your new LD friends?  The 2012 Balloon Fiesta runs from October 6-14, 2012, and all you have to do to join us is send me an email and I'll respond with my registration letter.
Many of the people from last year, and the year before, are returning.  That should tell you how much fun they all had.  Last year was a record breaking year with 35 rigs.
So don't delay, if you want to see this awesome sight, then jump on board.

I bought a 6 year old Class A with 2500 miles on it. I later found it had 900+ miles on it at delivery to the first owner. So it actually had approximately 1500  miles on it by two owners over a 6 year period. I drove it over 22000 miles the next 25 months and it was running like a top when I got broadsided  last November. I had the concerns over the low mileage but they proved not to be valid concerns.  Now this was on a GM 8.1 engine not a Ford but I would expect seal issues to be near the same..
If you are too worried about the low miles there is a unit for sales

Well, the time is fast approaching where I need to send in the count of how many rigs will be attending this year.  If you are thinking about joining us, please contact me to receive the registration information.  If you already have that information, please send it on to me so you won't be left out of this fantastic event.  You will see amazing balloons, meet and socialize with great people, and join us for lots of socials.  This is also a good time to have your annual service on your Lazy Daze, or any repairs, as Mike and Lisa will be in Albuquerque again this year.  Their service does require an appointment, however.
The official dates for this year's BF are 10/6 to 10/14; but people can arrive as early as 10/1.

Don't get left out of this fun event; contact me soon.

May I suggest that people who want to attend the Balloon Fiesta contact Linda offline, rather than posting here?

For the folks interested in the Albu Balloon Fiesta you should take a look an another Yahoo Group;

The closer the Fiesta gets the more postings you will see there.

Hello all. Just a quick note for any prospective BF attendees that have not made their reservations yet. I just faxed in my reservations thus far, along with half of the money. The next payment will be sent in August 1. At that time I will no longer be able to take any further reservations. So if you decide after that date, the only way you can join us is if someone else cancels.
I was told by the BF organizers today that they are filling up fast. So if you want to join us for this fabulous event, don't delay. I don't want you to be disappointed if they tell me I can't make any more reservations.
