water pump start up
Yahoo Message Number: 128735
We have a 2001 LD with the original Shur-flo Whisper King water pump. It works well. However, on two occasions, we've had difficulty getting the water pump to work, once when filling the fresh water tank after it had been drained and empty for a few weeks, and once when filling the tank this February after the LD had been winterized and the tank drained. On the first occasion, the bolts securing the pump were loosened, and the pump was moved around a bit; this apparently helped to get rid of an air pocket, and the pump worked perfectly thereafter. On the second occason, after filling the tank, again the pump would not work, and we tried the technique that had worked the first time, to no avail.
I had read somewhere a post suggesting that it was sometimes necessary to simply let the water pump run continuously, and that eventually it would prime itself. This  is what eventually worked for us, although the pump probably had to run almost an hour, now and then, before, to our great surprise, it finally did work. Not wanting to go through this frustrating exercise again in the future, we're wondering if there are some suggestions on how to avoid this problem. I saw one post indicating it was useful to prime the pump with antifreeze during the winterization process, but how would that be accomplished without putting a lot of antifreeze into the water tank?

Any other suggestions? Thank you.
