Electric Blanket Question??
Yahoo Message Number: 128509
Our 13 year old Sunbeam is finally biting the dust!  While it came with electronic controls, the socket on it had only three contacts (common, left, & right) so the old analog controller that I bought at a thrift store plugged in and worked great on inverter power.  These newer digital controls don't like the square wave that my inverter provides and I really don't want to spring for a pure sine wave inverter.

What current electric blanket models will work on the square wave pattern???

Thanks,

Glen w/SOB

We use a mattress heater and had the same problem finding one that would operate on  the inverter's 120 VAC power. The modified sine wave inverter would not let the controls work. We ended up using a 12 VDC model instead.
You might want to considering using a mattress heater, they use less power than a blanket and lheat the whole bed, not just the blankets.

Like Larry, I've been using a 12V mattress warmer for a long time, and for me it's one of life's greatest luxuries to climb into a pre-warmed bed. As far as I can tell, only one company makes these--Electrowarmth--and in only one size--36" x 60". (Their primary market is long-haul truckers.)
These mattress warmers draw 6 amps, and since in all but the coldest weather it's sufficient to run the warmer for half an hour and then turn it off when you get into bed, power consumption isn't an issue--less than 5 amp hours a day. And there's no need for an inverter!

Here's the product:
