Made a trip to Costco today. Did my usual impulse shopping...
Costco may have the very lowest price on Duracell "D" size batteries, plus others.
I paid $11.99 (12 dollars) for a 12 pack of "D" size Duracell Coppertop batteries. At $1 each I don't know how you can beat the price. Didn't find any Web source that was cheaper.

FYI, the Costco "Kirkland Brand" Batteries SUCK!!  Nowhere near the life of a Duracell.

I am a heavy user of batteries.  Especially the AA size.  I have used Kirkland brand AA's for several years.  I have never seen a noticeable difference between Kirkland and Duracell, both of which they sell.  One of the things I really depend on is the batteries used in my weather station.
They have to endure the torture of Arizona sun and snow in the winter.  I have seven wireless sensors that really depend upon the durability and life of the Kirkland alkalines I use in them.  They have never let me down.

While on the subject of Kirkland, Costco does a huge amount of testing before they sell a Kirkland product.  I have an aerospace quality assurance background.  I would say that 75% of our total shopping is at Costco, primarily for that reason.  Their vanilla ice cream, for example, was tested by a taste testing panel for over a year before they offered it to the public.  I guess you can tell we are a fan of Costco.  We would never live in an area where one did not exist.

According to Consumer Reports in their December issue, Kirkland AA batteries had 77% the capacity of the Duracell Copper Top AAs when used in their test cameras; the Kirklands cost 29 cents per 50 shots, compared to 56 cents per 50 shots for the Duracells.
The longest lasting (5 times longer than the Duracell) and cheapest per shot (23 cents) was the Energizer Ultimate Lithium battery (non-rechargeable).
They recommend the lithium batteries for high drain applications like the cameras, the alkalines for low drain uses like TV remotes, and rechargeables for heavily used toys.
The Kirkland batteries of any size have been completely adequate for my purposes for a long time.
