Some of you may remember that I was tied up for most of this summer dealing with my father's estate. I promised to tell the story at some point, and now I have--on my "Travels with Andy" website:
 http://www.andybaird.com/travels/skylarking/2011/donald01.htm

Losing a parent is something all of us either have faced or will face, and many of us will be asked to act as executor of an estate. I hope that my description of my own experiences may be helpful to others; I've appended a page at the end describing the lessons I learned.

Excellent writing Andy, and very informative. As executor of my father's property and assets, this information will really come in handy when the time comes (father just turned 79 last month).
Sorry for your loss..........bu thanks again for sharing the experience.

Ditto from me as well.. Great write-up (I'm not done reading it yet) but us kids (4 of us) will need to take some of this as our mother gets older -- she's in her 80's and lives alone after my father passed away a few years ago.  Thanks for taking the time to write up this -- you're a great writer.  I'm also sorry to hear about your father!  He sounds like he was a very interesting person!

Andy, Thank you for the wonderful writing and sharing of your experience.
You will undoubtedly help many. Your father sounds like he was an incredible man. You are fortunate to share many of his traits.

Andy, Thank you for sharing this personal story with me. I found it to be enlightening, educational, entertaining and a joy to be able to peek into this intimate portrait of a phase in your life. Most people wouldn't feel comfortable sharing such an experience with such a large group. You're a special guy. Don should be proud as I'm sure he is.

Thanks Dick.
I spoke too soon.  I was apparently having internet problems.  It works for me now.
As several have said, it is interesting, and thanks to Andy for documenting it.

Andy,
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us.  I know Donald would be very proud of you.  Many of us are approaching that time when we have to either face this with our families or even ourselves.  Your tips at the end are priceless.
My sister and I went thru this when my father passed away and we had been preparing for it for several years including taking inventories of everything
