In the files section, an article on buying a used LD says "The best guide I know of is the survey of "used LD asking prices vs. age" compiled by Barry Barnes, a member of this group. You can find it in the Database area of this website."
I haven't been successful at finding Barry's article and would appreciate a link.  Someone around here has a 1984 LD for sale for very little $$ and I want to educate myself before going to take a look at it.

Here's a version from April of last year.  There could be a newer version out there.  Since values change over time, you'll have to make some adjustments.  Luckily, the value of a 1984 model won't change much in a year.

IMO, for an older LD, condition and level of care is a much stronger determinant of value than age.  I could easily imagine a well kept 1984 being worth 2-3x a poorly maintained model.

Good Luck!

A poorly maintained '84 may well have no value. There was one on Craigslist in Houston, did it sell?
On the other hand, I have put 20,000 miles on my 84 in the last 2 years and would not sell it for $10K.

My major concerns with the condition of old vehicles (and 28 years is old!) are safety related: the flexible brake hoses and fuel hoses, followed by the entire braking system condition, steering joints and overall steering system condition, and tires. If the fuel and brake hoses are original, I'd plan on replacing all of them, regardless of how good they looked. They can be bad on the inside but look OK outside.

The condition of other stuff is easier to determine by inspection.

What isn't allowed to be posted?  The information, the file, or the link? At one time or another I'd have to say I've seen all three.

I made that decision some years ago when the used-RV market was in major flux, and it didn't seem feasible to provide a reliable estimate of asking prices based on the skimpy data then available.
But the market seems to have stabilized, and I think it's time to reinstate Barry's estimated price list, which can be very helpful for both sellers and buyers. Barry, if you're willing to upload a copy of the latest version, it would be welcomed. :-)

Thanks to all for the good advice.  We passed up the 1984 one as a 1989 one was listed this morning on Craigslist with (allegedly) 22,000 miles.  But the vehicle looked like it'd been driven more than that -- e.g. worn upholstery on driver's seat, and the seller had a title
