Aw... Sears memories.  Going to the store in Santa Monica CA with my Dad, and never failing to buy peanut clusters from the candy counter on the way out the door!

If you have an air compressor handy, this air powered caulk gun should do nicely for $23

If you want a manual one, but a smoother operator than run-of-the-mill cheapies, then this for $22:

Home Depot probably carries an air powered one as well.

Sounds reasonable, however, if you read the reviews on this product the most critical review specifically states that this gun does not work well to dispense 3M Marine Caulk 4000 as it comes out VERY slowly even once you crank the PSI beyond the recommended 20 and even up at 50PSI it comes out VERY slowly, however other brands/models are probably a better match for these really thick materials -- unfortunately then you're looking at much more $$ -- I guess I'm still leaning towards the Ryobi.. I Just need to find a charger & battery set for a song & dance.. 8-)

Your best bet is to keep an eye on Home Depot for a bargain Ryobi "bundle." That's what got me into the Ryobi One+ line in the first place: I was shopping for a cordless circular saw when I came across a $99.95 Ryobi kit comprising a circular saw, drill/driver, detail sander, flashlight, charger and *two* NiCd batteries. I had been prepared to pay that much for the saw alone, so naturally I bought the kit, even though I already had the Makita cordless drill, so I didn't really need another one.
Once I saw how good the Ryobi tools were, I bought a compatible saber saw, Rotozip-type saw and buffer as refurbs from an Amazon affiliate.
The only time I had a problem was when one of my two battery packs stopped being able to hold a charge after about four years. I bought a replacement from an Amazon vendor. Although described as new, it turned out to be a defective refurb. Further research revealed that only Home Depot carried new Ryobi products. I bought the Ryobi lithium-ion batteries and charger from them, and have been very happy with them.
I'm guessing that with the holidays approaching, you'll probably find Ryobi "starter kits" on sale at Home Depot. For example, I see they have an $89 kit with circular saw, drill, charger, NiCd battery and carrying case, and a $129 kit that adds a reciprocating saw. (A similar Ryobi kit with 1.5 Ah LiIon battery costs $199, so there's definitely a premium for the better battery technology.)
Anyway, shop around and look for sales. Keep in mind that you may find it less expensive to buy a kit with tools you don't really need than to buy the battery and charger separately.
By the way, I had one of my Makita battery packs rebuilt before I swapped that outfit to a friend. The company was

... and they did a good job. It wasn't cheap, but it was less expensive than buying a new battery pack for the old drill.

Holey Moley, the things I hear about on this list. Air powered caulk guns!!! Who knew there was such a thing. I am such a dinosaur. I am still using a gun that is almost 40 years old and is covered in drippings. I am hoping it will last until I no longer care to use a caulk gun or I am  just drooling on myself.

On another note, the traffic on this list has changed over the last few months. I would suggest the reason is that the Companion has made "room" for other topics, like air powered caulk guns and refurbishing 1985 LD's. 1985 must have been a banner year or else they are trading hands rapidly as it seems there are more posts about 1985 models than any other year.
Anyway, "room" for other topics is a good thing. I was getting weary of asked and answered questions. Kudos' to Ted the weather toad for doing the work on the Companion. Wave to him in NM.

Yup.. Also check their 'bargain' shelf every once in a while -- you might find something interesting there albeit with possibly a piece missing.. My local Craigslist had a handful of people selling these Ryobi kits for ~$80 but none will return my emails -- I hate it when someone lists something on CL but won't bother to respond.. Go figure!

Anyway, I'll be heading over to HD this weekend to see what they've got.. Apparently Lowe's no longer carries Ryobi (I think they used to) in favor of their house-brand (Kobalt).. Interestingly enough, Kobalt carries a pneumatic caulking gun for $22 but I can't find anyone that has actually tried it and without any manuals available online I'm hesitant to even bother with it as I suspect it'd have a hard time squeezing 3M marine sealants like the Campbell-Hausfeld does..

Ok.. So I flaked on buying the Ryobi -- still have to pay property taxes soon so I opted to buy the Dripless Inc, ETS-3000 ($18) at a local woodworking supply place in Santa Ana (CA).. I've not tried using it with the 3M caulk but have used it with PL Poly Sealant and also PL construction adhesive and it worked easily with both.  This gun has an 18:1 thrust ratio which is not the highest available (I think the highest I saw on the web was about 26:1..  Anyway, hopefully if the weather behaves I might be able to reinstall a window tomorrow and try it with the 3M 5200 -- still need to re-install some 1/4" plywood before the windows can be replaced.
By the way -- I'm adding a small cubby in the back wall -- perhaps LD might think about doing something like this?  There's more than 5" of working space in that back wall -- at about the half-way up the wall point -- more the higher you go.. See the pics on the blog to see what I'm talking about :
