I found this quote in the Fort Truck Super Duty news on "A First Look at the 2012 Ford Super Duty"
 http://www.ford-trucks.com/article/idx/0/750/article/A_First_Look_at_the_2012_Ford_Super_Duty.html

"Those who do not need the grunt of the Power Stroke can opt for the standard gasoline engine in the 2012 Ford Super Duty, measuring 6.2L and sending 385 horsepower and 405lb-ft of torque.  This engine may not offer the pure force of the Power Stroke, but with improved fuel economy over the old 6.8 V10 engine and E85 compatibility – this standard engine is a great option for those who need a good, strong truck but who don't want the additional cost of the diesel engine.  Also new for 2012, Ford has added a compressed natural gas/propane prep engine option for Super Duty pickups equipped with the standard 6.2L engine."
I wonder with the V-10 no longer offered in the F Series HD what they are going to offer in the E Series HD models. Has anybody seen anything in print?

How about Ford's website?
http://www.ford.com/commercial-trucks/eseries-cutaway/> The same old V8 and V10 are offered in the 2012 E450 cutaway.
LD's website shows the same.

Eventually, the E450 will get the new 6.2 engine(or a relative).
The E-series (vans) has not had an engine upgrade in almost 10 years, while the F-series (pickups)received the 3-valve head a couple of years ago.
The F-series will get the new 6.2 liter engine this year.
Personally, I'm more interested in the E450 getting a decent, inter-cooled diesel.

Now that Ford is making their own V-8 diesel engine maybe we can hope for a  nice Inline 6 turbo diesel for the E-HD. Or something from Europe in a Transit  chassis.
I had a Cummins 5.9 TD in a 97 Dodge/29' Alpinlite 5-er, and on one coast  to coast vacation trip we averaged 13.5 mpg with plenty of power. Auto trans was  the weak link!

It will be interesting to see how the many thousands of tradespeople and companies who depend on the Ford vans (still "panel trucks" to me) will react to this planned change.
Sportsmobile (and other class B manufacturers) has been preparing for the eventual demise of the Ford vans by expanding their platform choices beyond the large Ford and Chevy vans to the MB Sprinter chassis, and now, they're working on plans for the van offerings from Nissan. When the larger Ford Transit arrives, I am sure Sportsmobile (and other manufacturers) will build on that chassis, too.
I have no interest in a motorhome built on a Sprinter chassis, but I suggest that those who do make sure that *service* is available before buying one.
