Upgraded my converter to Progressive Dynamics 4600

I am a fairly new member as I joined the group during the summer and bought my first LD in November. It is a 2001 MB. Anyway, I read all the articles on replacing the converter from the Magnetek 6345. I had decided on either a PD 9100 or 9200. The club recommends Randy from Best Converter. I emailed him and he suggested the 4600 from Progressive Dynamics. He said it was a newer model and a direct replacement for my Magnetek. He answered all my concerns about size and difficulty and I appreciate his advice. I finally decided at last on Tuesday and ordered the Progressive Dynamics 4655 (55 amp) and it arrived Friday morning. Delivery was free and was on the slow freight, but I got it in 2 days. I installed it on Saturday without too much trouble. It comes with a new case, a new fuse board which included the two 30 amp fuses and built-in Charge Wizard. My only problem was replacing the fuse board because of the short wires that LD leaves. I finally got that resolved. It took me 2 hours from start to finish and most of that time was trying to install the new fuse board. Otherwise it would have taken less than an hour. I am very happy with the result.
I appreciate all the links and participation by the members. I have learned a lot in a short time from all the comments.

Kevin:   I also replaced the converter with  a Progressive 70amp converter about a year ago.   I then discovered there is a 50amp fuse  inline between the converter and the house batteries.   When the  batteries were low and the converter was doing its charging thing this breaker  tripped.   Ended up replacing it with a 70amp...bought online because  it's cheaper.
Everything working ok now.   The  Progressive is a 100% improvement over the LD install.   We have a  2002 30' island bed and this fuse in under the two drawers under the  fridge.   If yours is a 55amp converter you should be ok, but if something goes haywire look for this inline breaker.      Gale

Except that you're now able to put 70 amps of current through wiring that was designed for 50 amps maximum. That's why the 50 amp breaker was there: to protect you from setting your wiring on fire with too much current.
I hate to sound censorious, but replacing a breaker with a larger one without upgrading the wiring to match is a seriously bad idea.

The Progressive Converter I used for a replacement was installed by a professional electrician and he tested the LD wiring and determined it was heavy enough to handle the larger amp load.   Forgot to mention this and LD owners should be aware of this concern.   I was mostly pointing out  that there is an inline breaker most people are unaware of.   However,  it is included in the LD owners manual diagrams.   The Progressive  converter is great and practically noise-free.

My PD4655 makes a very audible hmmmmm when the batteries are charged AND there is no load on the system (aside from the propane detector).  Switching on a light (or anything else) makes the hmmmm go away.  Turn the light off - hmmmm again.

Is mine different than the rest?
