Quartzite Colony?

I am planning on visiting Quartzite for most of January, '11.  Hoping to raft up with other LDers, hopefully in a BLM (free) camping area.  Anyone else? Any advice?

My wife and I spent three days and nights at the Hi Jolly and Roadrunner sites on free BLM land in mid October, weather was great and the campsites were practically deserted.  That will change in January when you go and I'm not sure just how crowded those sites will be then.  Both of those sites are quite a distance from the main attractions, so you would almost need a toad to get around in.  We've never been there at that time of year so don't have any direct experience and not sure we would want to go then or not as we prefer peace and quiet to congestion.  I'm sure there are others here on the forum who have some good first hand advice for you.  We live in Sun City, about 120 miles from Quartzsite via I-10 so it's an easy drive for us. Hope you enjoy your visit.

We have visited Quartsite on a number of occasions and enjoyed it very much and we plan on going in Jan '11 for the Rally, MH Show, and Swap Meet. If you want more information there are websites for Quartsite. We usually stay in the BLM area around Milepost Nine. We have a Trike Motorcycle for transportation to town.and a 1982 Lazy Daze we'll be looking for other LDer's  RamblnRose

I assume you mean the Dome Rock BLM area south of I-10 at Exit 11...?

Here's a website that will give the locations of all the BLM areas around Quartzsite, both free and fee (LTVAs):

I also live in Sun City Palm Desert, own a LD and would like to make a trip to Quartzite but cannot find your listing in the SCPD Community Directory.

Maybe he lives in the Sun City in the Phoenix area?

He (I) currently lives in Cameron Park, near Sacramento, CA.  After 10 days at Baloon Fiesta, I find it enjoyable to camp with other LDrs.  Just looking for others that will be at Quartzite and are interested in a group camp.  Nothing formal.

BTW, used to live in Indio, long ago.

WOW, you do like to be close to others if you want more group camping after the Balloon Fest. That would be like a never ending Thanksgiving for me - a little goes a long way.
Goes to show how diverse RV uses are. Some that come quickly to mind are: Full timers, concrete campers, a second home, to visit family, to attend sporting events, take vacations and much more. And of course, some fall into more than one category.

Another use for an RV: On some of our vacations, we have based our '05 MB at an airport along with our airplane for photo missions, flight-seeing, and sometimes flying into backcountry airstrips.  Recently, we were based for a week at Hanksville, UT Airport with our LD and our airplane.  We flew our airplane over the beautiful scenery around Capitol Reef, Hanksville, Lake Powell, and Canyonlands and then back to the airport for the comforts of home in our LD (we camped right at the airport). When the weather was not good for flying, we took a side trip with the LD over to Capitol Reef for several days.  Oh - you might wonder how we manage to get both the RV and airplane to these destinations.  We are both pilots so someone drives and someone flies.  This time I flew the airplane and my husband Mike drove our LD.
