Lazy Daze - New member

Hello Group: I,ve just been approved as a new member....oh oh....could be a mistake (kidding). I live in Ft Mohave, AZ and own a very nice Toyota MH. I think I want to go a little bigger and my choice seems to lead me to a Lazy Daze. I have a very nice little Geo Tracker convertible and not really towable on my Toyota. I used to tow it on a Jamboree MH with a 350 Chevy and it was very easy and I got about 10 mpg.  I do not get much better on my Toyota MH with a V6 with no towable. Please toss out ALL your opinions to me please and let me have them!!!! I was thinking around 23-25 foot RV. I have a site in Pismo Beach that I go to in summer months right on the ocean so my Geo would be a gem there.  My dream ideas are to head to Pismo, Branson etc with John Denver/Sarah Brightman CD's and Omaha steaks and California wines in my refer with a microwave, generator and A/C with some 12V hook ups so I can hit Walmart lots if I get tired. I am retired and where I live it gets 120 degrees in the summer.
I am between Needles, CA and Laughlin, NV close to the Colorado River. We have 12 casinos in our area. The Toyota's are becoming wanted RV's because they stopped making them in 1993. Mine's a 1991 Sea Breeze. Anyone want to swap/trade/negotiate???

Welcome to the Group!
Sounds like a good plan and you couldn't go wrong with a Lazy Daze. Personally I'd just as soon go to Omaha for those steaks but YMMV.
The combo of the 23' LD and the Geo Tracker would probably be a perfect match.

You'll fit right in ;-)
We have a 1989 TK with a Chevy 350 and tow a '97 Geo Tracker. No problems at all.

Steve S. - Thanks for the welcome and recommendation on the 23 ft LD and Geo.
What does the LD 23 ft avg mpg's? What do you guess it would average with the Geo? What size LD do you have and how do you rate your LD

Alex...thanks a lot for the floor plan outlines. I was looking on the internet for used Lazy Daze and saw a nice 22 multi plan. It says length 23 foot. It was a 1989. What would that be closest to? Any Lazy's you would say to stay away from???

Dennis,
TK is short for the Twin King floor plan. You can look at the current floor plans here:
 http://www.lazydaze.com/flrplans.htm

YMMV - Your Milage May Vary. The expression is used in a broad context outside the LD group.

Dennis, here's a link to Andy Baird's pocket guide which shows all the floor plans, including the Multi-Plan, which is no longer made.

As far as "staying away from any Lazy Dazes", that is a personal decision.  The mechanicals/construction of all LDs are the same.  The floor plans differ to appeal to buyers' different RVing needs.

My LD is back and repaired.  The Bill was over 1000.00--10 hours labor. But since they quoted me 650 and I have known owner since he started in business he cut labor bill in half.  So me an old blue is ready for a trip in Dec.  I will be updating my for sale ad to reflect it is fixed.  Everything checked out,  heater, frig etc...so ready to roll for another dog show.

I don't have a name for my LD other than Blue...

As Chris says, there's no "bad" model. However, the roof does need to be resealed after a bunch of years depending on how the LD is stored. Resealing with Eternabond tape should last indefinitely. Sometimes this maintenance step is overlooked and water damage can occur, so it's important to check for this when buying an older model. Typical signs are discoloration to inside panels and areas that are "mushy" when probed from the inside.
Repairs can range from minor to "best to walk away".

Unless you are experienced at looking at motorhomes, it is well worth the expense to hire an knowledgeable inspector to test the various system and most importantly look for indications of leakage and water damage.
Below is an idea of what you may miss during your own inspection.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/lwade/sets/72157625292745084/> The LD shown was bought without an inspection. It would have been  noticeable to experienced eyes, a good nose and a sharp ice pick.
LDs hold up extremely well as long as the various seals on the roof, wall and windows are maintained, but will fall apart when ignored.
Make sure you know what you are buying, it may save you thousands of dollars.

Toilet: Repair or replace?

Our '84 RD has a Thetford Aqua-Magic SL that doesn't hold water in the bowl.
(Stinky!)

The archives say that a Bravura is a bolt-in replacement.
The archives suggest that screws may be rusted out, that seals may not be available, and that all-in-all it is an unpleasant task to replace the parts.
For those of you that have done both, will I wish I'd had a new bowl ready to install, or will the old bowl go back and continue to give good service?

Dear George, the ball seal  you need  can be purchased at Camping World. The CW part number is: 42697 and cost $46.99 to club members.
A new toilet of equal design and quality is $250. approx.  If you decide on a new one, try to find one with the same plumbing, it will be much easier to install.  Hope I have been of some help. Doc 2000 FL
