I looked at the Yahoo Groups suggestion board (http://suggestions.yahoo.com/detail/?prop=groups&fid=210745), and nothing has been posted there in two months. This could mean Yahoo cancelled the changeover, but more likely it just means they got tired of being flamed (I don't think there was a single positive comment), and shut down the discussion. I found another page (http://www.ygroupsblog.com/blog/?p=997) with a message from October 12th, where they say that groups with fewer than 1,000 members (not us) can opt in to the "new experience"... AND can switch back to the current version afterward. The tone seems rather different from that of a few months ago. Then it was like "Ve will be svitching over all groups to ze new format. You vill like it." Now, it's more like "Please try it--you can always go back to the old style." Perhaps Yahoo has learned humility? I suppose anything is possible. ;-) Meanwhile, the industry press reports that a number of top execs have deserted Yahoo in recent weeks, and their email service is reportedly losing market share. Who knows... maybe the execs who were pushing for the makeover are the ones who bailed. One can only hope. ;-)Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/

I haven't had time to read them, but I did notice one posted a few days ago by a Yahoo staffer with what sounded like hopeful news: Thank for all the great feedback we have gotten. You¹ve helped us focus on what is important to Yahoo! Groups. Based on your comments we¹ve taken another pass at how messages work.What we heard: * Focus on the topic not the person contributing to the topic. * Add rich text support on the web. * Bring back nested conversations. * Bring back message numbers. * Bring back message history. * Make topics easy to read and more like what you had in the old version of Yahoo! groups! . . . It goes on at some length and has links to some examples, most of which give me an error message when I try to load them. ;-) Still, it's good to hear that they're going to retain message numbers--that's crucial for us--and are listening to user feedback on other issues.
