about that Lazy Dayz on Ebay.

I might be interested in this, sense I am looking to buy.

So what do you all think?  Price?  Mileage?

How about gas mileage... do you really all get 10-12 mpg?
I am not overly exited about the floor plan, but could live with it.
I see there was no picture of the bathroom.

Any other words of wisdom?  Thanks, Steve

Have you seen this (on pricing)? http://www.wxtoad.com/index.asp?page=LD/ld_prices.htm or http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/lifewithalazydazerv/message/111852

Not in my 2003.  8.5-9.5 is what I've seen in my driving.  This coach does have a newer transmission, but I doubt it's worth that much of an increase.

IMO, wait for the floorplan you really want.  We were tempted a number of times to go with a RK (we wanted and now own a MB).  I am so thankful that we waited.

I think it's largely the same as shown by Andy here in a 2003: http://www.andybaird.com/travels/skylarking/new-home/as-delivered.htm

This coach is in CA.  I'm not sure where you are, but I would strongly consider hiring Tim at Extra Mile RV to look it over and give an opinion if I was serious about a purchase.

Hey Steve - We have an 06 mid-bath.  We get 8-10 mpg.  Mileage can vary greatly depending upon driving terrain, or wind direction.  When towing, our mileage drops about 1 to 1 1/2 mpg, but I do drive about 3 or 4 mph slower when we tow.  I can't imagine getting a steady 10-12 mpg ever, unless you drive downhill both ways (lol).      Barry "O"  Ruby Red 06MB

--- If you haven't done so already, you might want to check the "Buying and Selling" link in the Files section of the message board for listings. "Previously-loved" Lazy Dazes of all model years and floor plans come up for sale all the time on multiple venues; take your time and get what works for you.
Getting a *consistent* "10-12 miles per gallon" is wishful thinking and/or marketing hype; in my experience, it just doesn't happen, and shouldn't be expected. The V-10 is reliable and pretty efficient, but it's a big engine powering a heavy vehicle and it sucks gas! *Many* variables affect overall mileage, but, (IMO) even under the best of driving conditions with a tuned engine and a well-under GVWR rig that's not towing, consistently getting 10-12 MPG overall is unrealistic.

As ever - and *literally* in this case - YMMV!

Yonder, an '05 MB with Banks kit, gets 8.5 to 10.5 depending on terrain and speed. I have noticed mileage drops about 10% when I'm forced to use fuel with ethanol (makes  a lot of sense foisting that garbage on us, doesn't it?).

--- Bumper, how about a few shots of 100LL avgas to boost the corn squeezins' in the LD's tank?  ;-)

I want to thanks everyone for the input... lots of good information and thanks for all the links and places to look for more info.
I having a little hard time using this forum.  It seems kinda awkward, when compared to other forums.... but... hey.. when I get use to it, guess it will be OK.

More questions.... So what is the most favorite floor plan? Does LD make a slide.  If no, why not? How many miles can I expect without any transmission troubles? Like 40000 .. 60000 miles need to have the tranny worked on/ replaced?

Thanks again everyone... seems like I have found a real good group.

Steve

The Mid Bath, but that does not mean it's the best plan for anyone.
They are all good plans.

Hell no. They are trouble. You want trouble?

Depends. Buying new? Take care of it and it will last.
Buying used, then it's a matter of what transmission and how it was cared for.

No.  Weight, structural integrity, exterior appearance, leaks, slide maintenance, the list goes on.....

Completely depends on how it was used and taken care of (with a little luck of the draw tossed in for good measure).  It's the same engine and transmission that you find in every Ford based class C from that time period.  It's a good modern solid transmission.
If you haven't already, take some time to visit the factory website (www.lazydaze.com) and read what they have under the headings of Workmanship, Road Manners, Creature Comforts, and so on.  That will help you understand some of the reasons why LD's are like they are.

"steve"  wrote: More questions.... So what is the most favorite floor plan? --- For the 27' models, the mid-bath and the rear bath, but I can't say for the 24' models. The "popularity" of a particular model isn't important, IMO; what works for one does not for another.

Does LD make a slide.  If no, why not? --- No, they don't, and, AFAIK, they have no plans to do so. Slides are heavy, and they can sag, bind, leak, and experience "electrical" glitches. According to Coach-Net, the emergency road service provider, the greatest number of their service calls involve *slide problems*.

How many miles can I expect without any transmission troubles? Like 40000 .. 60000 miles need to have the tranny worked on/ replaced? --- Well, I hope not, since my 2003 has almost 65,000 on it and I have had no problems. Like all the other components, of course, the transmission does need preventive maintenance and routine servicing, but if I had the expectation that the transmission would blow at 40,000, I wouldn't have bought the rig in the first place!

Good luck in your search.

Again thanks for all the input.
I looked at the used LD's for sale and looked at the Lazy Daze home site.
Question... I see the V8 and the V10.  Looks like they get about the same gas mileage according to the database st this site.
Given the chose of the 2, which one?  Is the V8 OK?  Should get better gas mileage because of 2 less cylinders?  I am not a hot rodder.  Don't care about extra power.  Put Put kinda guy.
Also, do the front seats swivel?  And turn to the back of the coach? This would make a difference to the floor plans I like the best.

Actually, the older LD with the Ford V8 used a larger displacement engine than the newer V10. The newer engine may get slightly better mileage, but mostly it is in the way you drive.

Not too long ago I recall reading someone commenting that they towed either a Ford Escape or a Mercury Mariner Hybrid with no problems.  Please let me know if this is still the case.

Thanks,  Bob in Florida, SE 5

I have a 94' MidBath with almost 65,000 miles on the transmission which is serviced regularly and she's still going strong. I think Ford built a really durable transmission for their trucks!

Bob, I have a neighbor who tows a Merc Mariner Hybrid with his Monaco motorhome.  Best I know, he has had no problems.  If you wish, I could ask him to contact you for verification.  Would this vehicle be a bit heavy for an LD?

---- You might want to check out "four-down" towable vehicles listed in this source; click on the appropriate model year:
 http://www.motorhomemagazine.com/dinghytowingguide/

If a vehicle is not listed as "towable" without modifications, check:

Bob, If you want to read about any problems towing the Ford/Mercury Hybrid, go to rv.net, Forums, Dinghy Towing.  The Hybrid seems to be OK, but there are many transmission failures for the non-hybrid vehicles and Ford has issued a TSB to lower the transmission oil level in those vehicles. Failures have still been reported after doing this, however.

I own a 2002 Ford Escape (not a Hybrid). When I bought my Lazy Daze in 2004 I fully intended to tow the Escape. That was until I questioned a local shop on how to set it up for towing. I was told that they thought the Escape could not be towed, they even called Remco and the verdict was confirmed, NO towing. It could not be towed four down or on a dolly. The only way was to put it on a flatbed trailer if you wanted it to go with you. Something about the full time 4 wheel drive system!
So, I bought a Honda instead. Still got the Escape, it's a great car.

Chris: Runs around 3500 to 3600 pounds, per what I have been able to uncover.
Weights seem to be something most sales staff and dealers are clueless about.

If you would not mind, yes pleas have your neighbor contact me on me personal email:  .

Many thanks,  Bob

Bob, if that's the weight, then it's about the same as the CR-V I tow.  Are the Mercs still being built?
I emailed my neighbor.
