Beware of leaking roofs August 01, 2010, 01:41:54 pm Yahoo Message Number: 114950This might be of interest to: 1) Those looking for a used LD? 2) Owners who do not have covered storage and don't live in the desert SW. Some friends of ours bought a slightly used LD last year. Turns out it the roof leaks and that has damaged the inside. The desert SW is the one area in the country where you might get away with a roof that is not maintained. The Mothership knows the roof needs to be resealed every so often. It's in the owners manual. Most readers here also know that, witness the thousands of posts about it. Still I have the feeling that some of us know about it, but we don't do anything about it.If you are looking for a used LD, you really need to get up on the roof and examine it. Better yet, have it checked it out by a pro. If you are not comfortable getting on the roof, you should only buy a new rig and sell it before it's five years old. If the rig is not under cover, is it parked so water will run off? The roof is concave and will hold a pond of water - water that will enter somewhere, sometime. Hi JW - Just to let you know we had the Mother of a storm here in Surprise (near Phoenix) two days ago. Water coming down so hard & fast I couldn't see the house across the street. This is the type of storm that "did in" Blue's roof some years back. You don't think you have a problem and wham!! So, please don't encourage someone to think the SW is dry.. it ain't!! All roofs should always be inspected, no matter where the coach is located. Maybe I should have used Bumper's Dragon Breath to dry the cabover before the dreaded dry rot set in??Lisa and Blue

While the SW may be drier than other areas of the country, it can have some storms come through that dump a lot of rain in a very short time...not to mention lots of lightening. Besides which, even if it doesn't rain, if a rig is kept in uncovered storage in the desert Southwest, that sun beating down on it (it can sometimes get up to 120 degrees or more), isn't going to do the caulking any good, either, so the roof still needs to be inspected frequently.Linda Hylton http://earl-linda.blogspot.com/
