My Lazy Daze calf killer struck twice this weekend!

Subject header is a tease of course but seriously, does anybody out there besides me have scars on their calves from stepping off the fiberglass front step with its anti slip sandpaper like coating and rubbing the back of their calf against it?  Example ...  If you are at a gas station pump, and the space to open your door is narrow, your calf is likely to catch the steps edge. This issue could be eliminated by stopping the slip guard a half inch shy of the step's edge instead of wrapping the step.
Can someone with clout at the LD factory get this corrected before another calf gets sanded raw ... Shy  a factory fix, we may find special calf guard instructions on Andy's e=book soon. :)

Starting with the '08 models, LD has done just that.  When we were at the factory in Apr '08 having some work done on our '02 FL, Steve N. made a point of showing off the new step he designed for the new '08 Ford cabs.

 Steve, the problem you describe happened to me several times with my old 1985 rig, but hasn't happened with the new 2003 one--I don't know why, though. Whoops! Yes, I do. I just went out and looked. :-) There's a Camping World step carpet wrapped around the thing, so the gritty stuff is all covered up.
 Now, I have to say that carpet is all but worthless for getting dirt off your shoes, so I'm not recommending buying it. (In my case it came with the coach.) What I ended up doing was buying an inexpensive Astro-Turf-style doormat--the kind with stiff blades of fake grass--from Walmart, and cutting it into thirds. One third covers the retractable step, held in place with two bungee cords (placed at the sides, where you won't step on them). A second piece fills the step well inside. The third piece is a spare. Scuffing my feet on those two pieces of mat does a *really* good job of removing anything that might be on the soles.
 But this isn't solving your problem. Here's a thought off the top of my head--untested, but worth a try. Get a foot or so of vinyl tubing from a hardware store, slit it up one side, and put it over the edge of the step. That ought to protect your calves. You might even get away with using a section of old garden hose if the diameter was large enough, but I think I'd go for 1" clear vinyl tubing, which you can buy by the foot.

Ha! Those newer models are oh so nice... but owners of 07 & earlier have calf scars to prove Brand loyalty... how do you 08 & newer owners show yours?

I like the tube idea Andy. I think it will fall off each time my calf comes in contact but what the Hell. I will just slide it back on... or wear my wounds with honor.
