According to our group's "LD models through the years" document,  for 1995 the specs are as follows:
 23.5' model: Ford E350 chassis, GVWR: 11,500 lb., 355 c.i./5.8 liter V8 or 460 c.i./7.6 liter V8 engine, electronic fuel injection, Ford E40D 3-speed auto transmission

The earliest specs I could find are for a 2000 but they will be similar for an earlier Ford-based 23.5'. LD used the E350 up until 2002.

You will notice the 10,823-lb loaded weight (passengers and liquids) vs. the 11,500 GVW.
This leaves little cargo capacity available. We waited for the chassis to be upgraded to an E450 before replacing our 1983 22" FL with a 2004 23.5" F because we always had to be concerned about the weight. Our 1983 LD was always at or over the GVW.
If you pack light the E350 is OK and will get 1-1.5 MGP better mileage than the E450, due to the lighter weight and different gear ratio.

-- Same here; I waited to order until LD put the 23.5' model on the 14050# gvwr E450 chassis in 2003. The "down the road" weight of my 23.5' TK, including at least a half tank of water, full fuel, empty holding tanks, and me, is about 11800#, well *under* the 14050# gvwr of the E450, but (at minimum) 300 pounds over the 11500# gvwr of the E350. As ever, YMMV.

"We are in the process of buying a 1995 23.5 LD.
The weight thing was a curiosity. If it turns into an issue then I am sure there are suspension mods aren't there?"

Ted

Yes, there are suspension mods available but they do NOTHING to increase the carrying capacity of the chassis.
The GVW is built into the chassis. This takes into consideration the strength of the frame, brakes and axles. The weight capacity that the Factory builds into the chassis is all there ever will be and nothing more.
Adding spring, shocks and sway bars will make it handle better, that's it.

Sorry for the bad news.
