Boondocker's Delight For Sale: 1997 Rear Bath
Yahoo Message Number: 111104
We're selling our Lazy Daze.

Reason: We were spoiled by our Foretravel motor home experience and bought a second one. (Our 1997 Rear Bath was our second Lazy Daze.
First was a new 2003 Mid-Bath. If you call us crazy we will not object ;o)

About our 1997 Rear Bath.
First off, I call it a Boondocker's delight because of the following:

1. Four solar panels
2. Two 8D Lifeline AGMs - 510 amp-hours. Plus a great battery monitor  that enables you to accurately know the condition of your batteries.
3. 1300 watt inverter that powers every 120v outlet
4. Catalytic propane heater right across from the dinette. Boy are we  glad we had this. Very efficient use of propane.
5. Propane plumbing to enable attaching an external large propane tank  for boondockers.
6. A swamp cooler. Runs on 12v. I was surprised it even supplied cool  air in the non-desert atmosphere of the San Francisco Bay Area last  Summer.
7. Insulation panels for all window/vent openings for cold weather boondocking.
8. Trik-L-Start plus solar keeps your engine ready to start while boondocking

We purchased the Lazy Daze a year ago. It was only after we bought it that we appreciated all the unusual added features it had.

For example, the 1300 watt inverter means you can power the refrigerator with electricity while you drive and save propane. Of course, you can also run the swamp cooler while you drive for the convenience of passengers I'm not sure if you could run the AC on the inverter for them.

Since we bought it a year go we added the following:

6 new tires. $1600

Lifeline AGMs plus monitor - $2500 at Am Solar in Oregon
Its previous owner had an electric step and damaged it. It had no step when we bought it. The factory added it latest bullet-proof manual step. $500

Tim Pease performed a few mods like adding the Trik-L-Start

It has synthetic liquids in the crankcase and rear end, which I'll refresh before sale. As well as have Ford fix a headlight and anything else they find.
It does not have a generator. But if you decide you'd like to add one of those great small quiet Honda generators, the now empty factory battery compartment is an ideal vented compartment to store the gasoline can for it.
It has HWH jacks for leveling it. This is a great improvement over the blocks we had to use with our 2003 Mid-Bath.
It has an actual spare tire! (In the location our 2003 Mid-Bath did not ;o)

All original sale and component documents and maintenance records.
It's currently in Fremont, CA and we'll be moving it to El Centro, CA within two weeks.
Pictures will have to come later since we are en route to Florida to pick up our Foretravel
I could set the sale price high and negotiate down to a fair price. I think a fair price is $19.5K. First come, first serve.
If it is over the line I apologize for posting like this. I'll submit a standard For Sale file uploaded posting when I'm not rushed and make sure I included all features I should have, and have photos (we're in Houston right now headed for Tampa).

My goodness. If I had 20-grand available right now, I'd buy it sight unseen!
We're methodically working through the options out there, but haven't got our financing in line yet. I know a lot of folk say if you can't pay cash you shouldn't get involved, but if I wait until I've saved up, I'll be in a wooden overcoat pushing daisies.
We've been lurking for a while on various RV newsgroups and our preference is for an LD, either an RB or RK 26.5. Frankly. I'd prefer a 32' or so Class A, but SWMBO says nothing longer than our late (not lamented) 26-ft '85 Class C.
We just had a quick look at a locally advertised '95 National SeaBreeze 31'. Asking price is $19K, NADA says about $10K. With all the extra bits and pieces, yours looks wonderful by comparison.
I'm impressed that you're willing to get a lot of LD owners upset and propose a reasonable price. Sorry the buyer may not be me! I don't think it will be on the market very long!
If, for any stupid reason, you aren't overrun by people who want to snap this thing up in the next couple of weeks, send me a PM. It would take a few days to organize financing through my Credit Union and a bit longer to convince SWMBO to go sight unseen.

Good luck (I think)!

My 23 FL was a 98 and burned in 2009. It wasn't nearly as equipped as this one is and I was paid 22,500 for my loss.  I think 20K is very much in line. DP LD2000 FL

OK, Paul, we'll accept the fact that you're crazy (VBG), but you have to tell us why you are giving up that tricked out LD for a Foretravel - which is probably pretty well tricked out, too.  More space maybe???

GEEGee, you make me blush. And at my age, too.
If I didn't know better I'd think I posted this under a different identity.

Buy you're right Frank, it's a pretty unusual Lazy Daze and it's drawing a lot of response

A bit hard to reply to on an iPhone

But thanks for the kind words

best, paul

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the post.  After more than a year with my first classic LD, I'm more than ready to upgrade to a newer model.  My favorite one is the Rear Bath.  I wanted it to my second and last RV.
Your love of the Foretravel is giving me second thought.  I need to explore it more before comitting myself to another LD.  I hope you will update you website with your second Foretravel purchase.  I will be looking forward to reading it.

Regards,

Sam

Hello!

Last night we returned to Fremont, CA and our Lazy Daze.

We took photos for a posting today but before we could post them we sold our Lazy Daze to a Bay Area resident who drove over to look it over.  Thanks to all who were interested in it.

We apologize to the many interested in "Little Red"  for not being able to post photos earlier.
We sold it for $19.5K and wish the new owner as many happy miles as we have had RVing.

Congratulations on selling the rig so quickly. I'm just sorry it wasn't me you sold it to!
Not quick enough off the mark with the Credit Union or persuading SWMBO to go sight unseen on a $20K rig!

Ah, well. Such is life!

Just a suggestion, Paul. Maybe you should revise the title of your post to indicate that the rig has been sold.
