Water Pump stays on, pumps water out the fresh water hookup

When we went camping a couple of weeks ago we had hookups and I noticed that when I unhooked the water connection to come home, water came out the inlet where you hook up the fresh water hose.  I checked this out further today and found that when I turn the water pump on it also pumps water out the fresh water inlet.  I assume there is a check valve somewhere that needs to be replaced but don't know where to look.  There are no water leaks inside, the water pump stays on and continues to pump water out the fresh water inlet.  There is water getting to the faucets as well but I know it shouldn't be pumping on the inlet so it won't maintain any pressure.  I didn't try it with the plug in the inlet connection but assume the pump would still stay on.  Any ideas what the problem might be and where to find the part that needs to be replaced?  We have a 2002 Midbath.  Thanks!

The check valve is right inside the inlet.  It may be just off center...try a small tool

I had the same issue and I'm replacing mine with a Shurflo pressure regulator wall mount... I purchased it at a local RV place.

Thanks for the help.....the problem is now fixed.  The valve was indeed off-center when I looked at it.  There was a small stone like
piece of debris in the valve that was keeping it from sealing.  I managed to remove the debris with a long nose pliers and now its working fine.  We have water pressure and the pump turns off and there is no water running out the inlet.

The check valve is right inside the inlet.  It may be just off center...try a small tool in the opening to pop it back.  Also check the archives...there should be several messages on this topic.  Also you can generally avoid this problem by not running the pump while the hose is connected and pressured.  The assembly is fairly standard and of course available from the factory. Good luck.

--- Using an inline water filter when filling the fresh water tank prevents sand, particulates, and other "sedimentary gunk" from getting into the valve and the tank, then into the water pump and the lines. Water quality varies tremendously, and even if one doesn't use the tank water for drinking and cooking, an inexpensive inline filter will help a lot to keep the fresh water tank (and check valve, pump, lines) free of various "cloggers".

www.rvwaterfilterstore.com is a very good source of products and information on anything water-related.

Everyone...
Yes, an inline filter will help in keeping your water clean, whether your filling your fresh water tank or connecting to the city water inlet. It only takes one grain of sand to clog that check valve. I don't know how many times I've seen careless campers drag their hose through the dirt and then connect to the city water inlet. They are just asking for trouble.
