Porable Generators March 09, 2010, 01:07:46 pm Yahoo Message Number: 110881Hello!I'm beginning to look into portable generators. Honda, being one brand. I see I can get a new Honda EU-2000i for $899 (dry weight 47 lbs) and two for $1979 with parallel cables.I was also wondering about propane-powered generators.I invite your thoughts and suggestions on the subject.best, paul ___ 'Thriving not Surviving' See our websites at www. For a portable, I sure wouldn't think of going propane (lower fuel energy density, more fuel container weight, less refill opportunity, normally no built-in fuel container on the generator, less selection of brands and models etc). If you aren't running an air conditioner and don't mind spending a bit more, solar has lots of appeal - - I can run everything in Yonder and never run the generator - - 'cept for that darn air conditioner.bumperYonderMinden, NV[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Stick with gasoline-powered generators if possible...propane-powered ones are inefficient and you'll go through more fuel running the exact same thing as a gas generator. Whether you'll need one or two Honda 2000's depends on what you want to run. If it's you're 13.5K A/C unit, one is probably not enough. If you have a 15K A/C unit, you'll definitely need two (we run our 15K A/C unit with two Honda 2000's paralleled together). If you have a 13.5K A/C unit that you want to run with a generator, you might look, instead, at the Yamaha 2400-watt. It advertises that it'll run *most* 13.5K A/C units.Linda Hylton http://map.datastormusers.com/user1.cfm?user=1167 http://earl-linda.blogspot.com

I'm assuming you don't have a built-in generator, because if you do, it'd be crazy to buy a portable. Well, the Honda EU series are as good as it gets. But before going further, ask yourself these questions: * Do I want this in order to run my air conditioner? (If so, you'll need two EU2000s or one EU 3000.)* Where am I going to store one or two 60-pound generators? * Where am I going to store the gasoline can? (Must be in a vented exterior compartment.) * How am I going to feel about going outside every time I want to start the generator(s)? How about at 7:00 a.m. on a chilly morning when I want power to run the microwave oven or coffeemaker? * How am I going to keep the generator(s) from being stolen? (Happened to me at Quartzsite a few years ago, despite a locked antitheft cable.) * Would it make more sense to have an Onan generator installed in my rig, as Tessa and others have done? Advantages: indoor start button, no possibility of theft, no gas cans to carry.Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/
