Just a reminder about a great website for those who driving the "scenic byways":

http://byways.org/explore/
(NB -- the above link is not the home page of the website, but this page contains direct links to each byway.)

Thanks for that link, Joan. I have the books, and now am glad to find out there's a website too. Very valuable.

Thanks for the link, Joan!
This summer when we were traveling in Idaho, we traveled many of their byways.  This Idaho Byways website lists 30 byways compared to the six listed on the above website: http://www.idahobyways.gov/byways/.  I don't know why the difference...maybe the ones at the above website are national and the ones on the state website also include state byways?  At any rate, if you Google the byways for the state you're interested in, you'll undoubtedly come up with more (for example, http://www.experiencewa.com/scenic-byways.aspx lists 23 byways in Washington State).

--- Linda, most, if not "all", of the byways for Idaho and other states, federal and state, are listed on the byways.org site; this link is from the home page of the "Byways" site; click on the state map; the federally-designated byways are listed first, the state and "local" byways are in a linked list under these.

I figure that I'm not going to live long enough to hit all the "scenics" in all the states, but I'm working on it! ;-)

---- I didn't do a good job of suggesting a "start" link for the Byways list; sorry for the confusion.
To amend my original suggestion, just go to http://byways.org/ and click on the preferred state on the little "starred" map on the home page; that brings up a list of all the byways, federal and other.
