Installing a generator on 1996 26.5 MB - any advice!
Yahoo Message Number: 110465
Hi, group this is Dawn, who found she used her LD less than she'd like - something about having to get out in the winter in Boston and add a cupful of gas to the 1k Honda generator every hour to keep the furnace power going....

So, I found an Emerald generator (Todd says this what they put in at the time - he also said he found little difference between new ones and the Emerald).   I ordered the screen panel to replace the door panel covering the opening where the generator goes (I must paint it myself, as it comes in white, so Todd is also sending the paint).
I am looking around for the under floor housing kit (used, if I can find it, any leads?) and the BGE hinge.   I need to also find the remote start switch.   Then I am planning to drive to an RV place (not very plentiful in MA)to have them install the gas line and hook this all up.
At least that is what I think I need to do.   Any advice?  Are used parts not worth the effort?  Any recommendations?   Thank you.  Dawn

Dawn,

Having looked at this very exercise myself, the factory should have all the parts you need to complete this install, minus gas line.  At least that was the case a few years ago.  They had the frame, the cut off switch and start switch.  They told me where I could find all the wires, which are there already, to hook into.
Instead of looking for a RV place, look for a Cummins service center, which are in every metro.  They have the knowhow to complete the job.
They could also fabricate a frame if LD no longer has any.  They most likely would be able to furnish all the other parts needed as well.
BTW, Cummins shops service a lot of RV's and they own Onan.

Hope that helps,

-Victor (still with no gen set) 91 MB

Dawn, I added a Microquiet 4000 onto a '92 mid-bath.  That story, as well as others' info, can be found in the Links here:

I think Victor's idea to take it to Cummins is brilliant.  Skip the RV shop unless you can confirm their competence.

Thank you Victor.   I looked for used parts because the quote Todd gave me on the frame $450 if I remember correctly) seemed high given the rest of the work and the age of the vehicle.  So, I found an RV junkyard in Arizona, and maybe I can get this to work.   I will check out Cummins places nearby.
