Travelling Internet - UPDATE
Yahoo Message Number: 110464
Hello Group, again.
Since my last post on tethering my verizon smartphone to use as a modem while on the road, (where I don't have wifi) I began the process of activating the account for my next trip.
Bad news:  My new DROID is not supported! At least not yet. The operating system is different (and much better), and the support isn't there yet.  I was disappointed.  I was angry with Verizon.
Good news:  PDAnet application for the DROID.  This is a free ap from the Android Market that does allow and even encourage a tether between the phone and my laptop.
Great news:  No more added cost from Verizon!  No more calling to activate mobile broadband access or to cancel.  I downloaded the ap to both my phone and laptop, and it works flawlessly, with the added benefits of no cost and more convience.
The developers have versions for Iphone, Palm, and BlackBerrys, and maybe more.
Bottom Line:  As long as I have Verizon cell service, a smartphone, and a data plan, I can link my laptop and have internet and e-mail via the laptop computer.  Again, I can't see a downside.  And it has Bluetooth capability too.
Did anyone else know about this?  Been using it?  Hope so!

See you on the Highway Bruce Simpson 2005 Midbath and DROID
