Store lawn chairs
Yahoo Message Number: 110138
Hi Folks,
I've got a couple of cloth outdoor folding chairs and I haven't figured out where to haul them easily in a 22' LD. I've been thinking of the shower and I wonder if anyone has come up with an ingenious way to stand them up in the shower without getting them wet and gunky from soap residues. I'd remove them during showering, of course.
My thought is to install some hooks or screws that I could attach a bungee cord to, to hold the chairs upright. Is that easily done in that shower wall material? I assume I could find wood studs behind the walls. I'd appreciate any ideas.

Thanks...

Chuck, Bellevue, WA 1995, 22' RB

Our '83 FL has very limited compartment storage for such items, but for years we've carried a pair of cheap folding chairs from CW that fold to about 1.5" and fit into an outside compartment. Recently I've found it hard to find replacements, so I've had to keep them repaired. A version of them might still be available there from time to time.

If you wipe down the walls and floor of your shower with a microfiber mitt each time you take a shower, you won't have to worry about it being wet or gunky from soap residues when you put your chairs in it.  Saves on a lot of cleaning, too!

Linda, thanks for that idea. I haven't heard of those mitts but found them online. I assume you can wash them easily so they continue to scoop up the gunk?

They wash fine...just don't use fabric softener when washing and drying microfiber.
There is, apparently, a special detergent just for microfiber, but I've never even seen it, let alone used it and my microfiber mitts, dish towels, and dish cloths come out just fine.

David, thanks for the idea. It won't work with my configuration but I appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Hi Chuck, CW has a chair holder rack that can be affixed to your exterior ladder.  You can also buy a canvas bag to keep the contents dry -- straps or bungees keep the bag o' chairs stable on the ladder rack, or you can just hang them from the rack without bag protection.

Second suggestion, for interior use

wrote: Heading out now to find mitts! --- If you aren't able to find microfiber mitts, you can also use a microfiber towel to wipe down the shower; you don't specifically need a mitt to do the job.  Microfiber towels vary in size (and quality), but they're widely available; try Wal*Mart, Target, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Kohl's, etc. Costco sometimes has them, but not consistently.
An additional suggestion/idea that quite a few people have done: put a tension-mount shower rod between the top edges of the shower compartment. I use (the rod with) small plastic hangers with clips (try BB&B, Container Store, Storables, yada yada) to hang wet washrags, a shower wipe towel, and anything else that is "drippy", e.g., a rain parka. Works for me.  ;-)

We store stuff in the shower all the time. To keep a wet shower floor from damaging anything, it is covered with a sheet of Dri-Dek; a plastic grating that allows water to drain through. It also provides a secure and sanitary floor surface to stand on while showering.

In dry weather, we carry the chairs on the ladder using a folding rack. It can also be used to carry a bike. It stays on the ladder all the time, folding up when not needed

Well, thank you all once more for the great help and ideas:
 - Lorna, I hadn't thought of sticky hooks to hold bungee cords; I'm sure I can find some that'll work great, and save me punching holes into the walls.

- Joan, I'll definitely use the shower rod/hangers idea.
 - Larry, thanks for the great links to Dri-Dek and the folding ladder rack, both new products to me. There's a marine store near here where I'm sure I can find the decking, which would allow me to store other things

I use the sticky hooks, (3M I think)the 8 lb size behind the spare tire cover on my '02 MB to hang water hose, power cords and extra propane hose.  Change out the acorn nut for a wing nut for ease of access.
