Snow on roof

As a former NY State resident (and last winter I spent at Nova Scotia)  I would suggest not using a shovel to clear the roof of snow.  You will never know what you hit and could cause damage.  Put on warm pants and warm gloves and manually push the snow off.  Much safer and you could work from your knees keeping your center of gravity lower.  Start from the ladder and work forward and side to side.

That's a good point, Mike. In my comments above, I should have mentioned that when I remove snow from my LD's roof, I use an old plastic kiddie snow shovel that has a short handle and a  business end that's about 8 by 12 inches.
