RV Park Recommendations by Disneyland, CA
Yahoo Message Number: 109923
Hi All:
We are planning to take a couple grandkids down to Disneyland, CA. from Portland, OR. The beginning of April or the middle of June.

A couple questions:

1 Does anyone have a favorite RV park close to the Park?
2  And does anyone have any recommendations regarding going in April or June as far as weather and crowds?

Thanks for any advise :)

Sherry 1988 22" Multiplan RL Sandy, OR.

April is not possible but not during spring break (schools are on different schedules making spring break last a month) June is not duable due to graduations. So, may would be the ticket ($60 I believe).

Within the last 3 weeks we were at Anaheim Resort RV Park for 5 or so nights. Please be advised that all RV parks in the area are basically paved parking lots with the occasional small palm. The "Resort" in any Anaheim RV park name, as we have figured out from other road signs, refers to the area, not that the RV park is actually an RV resort.
Please look at "www.rvparkreviews.com" under CA-Anaheim to come up with possible choices.
We were not dissatisfied with our choice...it was not to go to Disneyland, however it was very very close and there is an Anaheim Resort bus (for a fee) stop on the grounds near the office. There were 3 laundries, a pool and spa and 3 bath houses and ownership management was on the grounds and present. The Disneyland fireworks are seen from the grounds (free!!) each evening that Disney shoots them off...now only weekends and special dates.
Many chain restaurants and stores nearby all RV parks. One might also use Anaheim as an eastern side of LA tour base...we went down to Long Beach to tour the Queen Mary...expensive!!!! We also went to the Nixon Presidential Library and the Bowers Museum of Cultural Art. There is also a great looking science-for-kids museum nearby....all of these are within very reasonable reach of the Anaheim RV parks base.
We had previously spent a week in Simi Valley at Tapo Canyon Park as a base for the west side of LA's tour base. Depending on the ages of the kids in tow...lots of great stuff to see in LA and only about 40 minutes away. Lots of stores including a Costco for gas, etc., in Simi.
If your times of opportunities to travel with the kids are limited and they are old enough to appreciate some of the LA museums, I'd vote for that...the La Brea Tar Pits and Page Museum are great...the Petersen Automotive Museum is superlative, the LA County Museum of Arts, the Reagan Presidential Museum (we tour all Presidential museums without regard to politics or comment), Mulholland Drive, Topanga Canyon, and if the kids are of a mind or old enough...both the Getty Villa in Malibu and the Getty Museum in LA. And more than we were able to see in our week in LA....and will be going back!
As for when to go to Disney...many years ago when we went to Disneyworld in FL I researched the best dates...all is subject to when the kids are available...but if you can possibly avoid Easter week, that would be good. Check and see when the RV parks are available and that will tell you all you need to know.
As a further note...the Anaheim Resort RV Park was offering a discount..."the first time in 8 years"...and we noted that at no time did the Disney foot and car traffic look heavy. As well, the RV park was about 1/2 full at best. The discount was not the deciding factor, but was nice.

Whatever you choose, have fun.

A Google search on 'best time to visit disneyland' yields a lot of good information. :-)

There is a Park right around the corner from Disneyland. It used to be called Travelers World but was bought out and they changed the name to Anaheim Rv Park, I believe. It is located at 333 Ball Road in Anaheim. Very clean level concrete pads and a small patch of grass. Pool, on site laundry and small store. I believe they have a shuttle to the Park. Also you have a prime site for the nitely fireworks show. Right off the 5 freeway at Harbor Blvd also. Hope this helps. John 85 fl

After reading Dale's advise to go in May I did go on line and do some research like Andy suggested and yes May looks like a better time to go. Will have to talk to my daughter to see if this is possible instead of April or June..I think it will be a no go because we took them out of school the end of Oct. for a week of traveling. They have some 1/2 days of school in May so I may be able to talk my daughter into having them miss 1/2 days of school to go to a less crowded Disneyland.
Tina I printed out your suggestions on what to see. Ages being 11 & 7 I think they would enjoy seeing some of the sites.

John I like when those parks have at least a little patch of grass.
I know there are a few RV parks around there but it helps to know if any of them are sucky and to stay away from them ect..

I forgot to mention that San Juan Capistrano and its very well preserved Mission is within a 30 minute drive from Anaheim. If one has time/interest to see only one California Mission, this would be the one to see. The day we went there were several school groups touring and the children looked to be in the age range of your grands.
Currently showing there (in a small side gallery) are some high-quality reproductions of about a dozen selections from the Irvine Museum...we were disappointed to not have the time left in our schedule to see the Museum and its originals, but it's on the schedule for next year.
Only a few minutes drive from any of the RV parks and Disney is the Crystal Cathedral. It's quite the sight, they do give free tours (although we didn't take one), and might spark an interesting discussion (but not one here).

Knott's Berry Farm is also close by.
Several months ago we stopped at a California Welcome Center and picked up the "2009 California Official State Map." It has great information and lots of attractions/museums called out that one might not otherwise be aware of, but would enjoy. We have found it to be a great guide.

We will have a couple days to explore places other than Disneyland so that info was much appreciated.  Turns out we will be going the end of March which I realise is not the best time but had no other choice.
We have already made our reservations at an RV park.
So if anyone down there sees a super cute older white & orange LD that would be us.

Thanks Again.
