Upgrading to Larger GP-6 Lifeline Batteries - Is It Possible?
Yahoo Message Number: 109503
I have a 2003 RB Lazy Daze and would like to replace the Trojan T-145 batteries I have now with Lifeline GPL-6T batteries. The Lifeline batteries are about one inch taller than the Trojan T-145 batteries.

I need the extra capacity and want to get away from adding water.

The GPL-6T's will clearly be a very tight fit, if they fit at all.

Will they fit? Has anyone done this?  Any advice or suggestions?

Thanks

"The GPL-6T's will clearly be a very tight fit, if they fit at all.
The battery compartment is 14", with the sliding battery tray removed.
The GPL-6Ts are 13" high so the battery should fit. It is going to be a bear to wrestle the 90-lb batteries in along with the cabling and hold-downs.
Make sure to securely strap or bolt the batteries down. In case of a rollover or bad accident, the thin plastic walls of the battery box may not contain the 90-lb batteries.
I would remove the sliding tray and build a new fixed tray out of aluminum angle.
Let us know how it works out and please post some photos; I'm sure others are interested in this.

Since the plastic battery box is not needed with AGMs, you might be able to remove the top of the plastic box and insert the batteries in from the top and retain the battery tray. This depends on the battery box's location, of course, that is, the LD model. For my MB, it looks to be possible to get to the top of the plastic battery box from the inside of the LD.

I did quite a bit of measuring and even cut a piece of plywood the size of a Lifeline 8D's footprint to convince myself and AMsolar they could get two 8Ds to fit under the forward dinette seat.
Now that the issue has come up again, what sort of restraint does the factory use to keep T-105s from becoming projectiles in an accident?

The batteries sit in the sliding tray and are strapped to the tray.
The sliding tray track is bolted to the coach's floor. I removed the tray in our 2003 LD and it did not want to come out. LD had glued the track and then used long lag bolts.
Cutting the top/back of the battery box is a good idea if it works with a particular floor plan. It would not work in our 23.5' FL without disassembly of the surrounding cabinet. It might be easier to use the area under the refrigerator or a dinette seat, once again depending on the floor plan.

After some careful measuring, I bought the Lifeline GPL-6T batteries.
My 2003 RB battery compartment is 14" tall from the bottom of the slide out tray to the top of the box and the batteries are 12.63". Thus with some careful wiring, I think I can make it work.

Thanks for the help.
