Campground hosts January 26, 2010, 08:30:30 am Yahoo Message Number: 109477This may be slightly (or a lot) off topic, but I think several members of this group are or have been campground hosts. Joyce and I want to try being hosts, but have a few questions. Can ya'll (we're from Ga.) suggest a web site that would be a good resource for asking questions is it's inappropriate here? Can you give us your insights about how your experiences have worked out? Since we have been mostly "vacation" campers (2 weeks is about as long as we have stayed in the RV at a time), what would you suggest we take with us that would be different from "normal" (ie, what did you wish you had brought but didn't)? (One position is relatively near civilization and the other isn't.) And most importantly, do we need to bring a car? (I know it would be convenient, but the cost is, I'm guessing, about $2000 to outfit the CRV to tow. Is it worth it?) Thanks. Ken

We enjoyed volunteering for a national wildlife refuge much more than we did being camp hosts.QuoteSince we have been mostly "vacation" campers (2 weeks is about as long as we have stayed in the RV at a time), what would you suggest we take with us that would be different from "normal" (ie, what did you wish you had brought but didn't)? That way, you can use an external propane tank and, when it is empty, throw it in the car, and take it to be filled rather than having to stow everything and unhook from utilities (if you'll have them) to drive someplace to get the onboard propane tank filled. Yes, I would take a car, even if you have to drive separately. You will not want to take your LD every single time you need to go shopping. What if you absolutely have to go into town for something while you're on duty? With a car, one of you could go leaving the other behind to work. Without a car, either both of you would have to go, or the person who stayed behind would have no place to stay.Linda Hylton http://map.datastormusers.com/user1.cfm?user=1167 http://earl-linda.blogspot.com

Campground hosts Reply #5 – January 27, 2010, 07:15:38 am Yahoo Message Number: 109496Towing a toad doesn't have to cost $2,000 or more! I recently bought Blue Ox equipment to tow my Honda CRV behind a 94' LD MidBath 26.5' and found my stuff on craigslist. Bought a Blue Ox base plate for $175 here in Florida, a Aladdin "Newer Aluminum style" Tow Bar for $200 out of up state NY, wiring I got when I bought locally for $100. a base plate and a rear hitch receiver (fit a 2008-2010 Honda CRV) Neither of which as I later found out fit my year CRV. Sold both and made $135.00 over my initial cost of both items. And will soon be buying an auxillary brake system I estimate for about $500-$650.Well under the $2,000 or more most would pay for these things! Blue Ox has a Special Program for their tow bars. Send them your Blue Ox Tow Bar and for $94.95, their service people will go over the tow bar and completely refurbish your unit, charging you only for any additional parts they find need replacing! Great deal if your buying a used towbar like me! When searching for a specific item on Google, just type in...Blue Ox Aladdin Tow Bar, Craigslist And Google will search the entire country for all craigslist ads containing that information. I buy stuff like that from all over the country at great prices! You get a feel for the person when you speak to them and I always check to see if they have a PayPal account in goid standing for at least several years. If they do, I deal with them figuring my chances for getting screwed are at a minimum! Recently for my RV, I Bought 7 Michelin Tires with 200 miles on them from a great lady in Oregon for $600...Ed 94' LD MidBath 26.5' Port Richey, FL
Re: Campground hosts Reply #6 – February 03, 2010, 06:32:19 am Yahoo Message Number: 109696I would like to thank all who answered our query about the campground hosting and towing a car. Sorry it took so long to respond. However, you might be able to spot a blue '09 MB (Lucy) in south Ga, Tx or SD later this year; nothing confirmed yet. Thanks again Larry for giving us the benefit of your experiences and perspectives. Ken and Joyce
