bunk ladder vs step stool January 20, 2010, 03:28:32 pm Yahoo Message Number: 109296Hi All: The LD we purchased recently 1988 22' Multiplan did not come with a ladder for the bed over the cab. The dinette is in the front and the previous owners said they used the dinette bench to step up to the bed. I was thinking of either a bunk ladder or a 3 tier step stool. The metal bunk ladders look a little small and unstable? And I did read one post were someone suggested a 3-step ladder. Before we make this purchase I would like to know what others use or prefer.Thank YouSherry

If you can get a bunk ladder from LD, it hooks onto the bunk and has padded steps. Very stable and comfortable to use compared to the alternatives.Steve

Most of us who have midbath models do exactly that, and it's much more convenient (and easy on your feet!) than going up a ladder with narrow, hard treads. Besides, why carry a ladder that you'll need to store when not in use if you don't have to? My advice is to try the dinette route, and if you're comfortable with it, forget about getting a ladder. With respect to the factory's ladder: older models like my 1985 had a ladder with wide, carpeted rungs. (Maybe this is what Steve is thinking of.) But more than a decade ago, LD switch to a ladder with narrow 2" rungs that have NO padding. I fully agree with Paul's comment that the new style is torture on bare feet! Now, it is possible to retrofit 4" wide carpeted steps to the new-style ladder--see http://www.andybaird.com/travels/ladder/> for some photos--but again, it's much better not to have to use a ladder at all, and it sounds as if you're set up to do just that. Try the dinette seat. I've been using mine that way for three years now, and it shows no signs of undue wear. :-)Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/
