There's been quite a lot of discussion--check the archives (http://www.lazydazers.org/Yahoo/msg_display.php>). In a nutshell: only three were built before Chevy stopped production of the Kodiak chassis. I *think* two have been sold. It's a mighty nice rig for fulltiming or snowbirding--has pretty much all the goodies you can imagine included as standard equipment. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to buy the last one, if I weren't satisfied with the midbath I have now. :-)Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/
Re: Lazy Daze Kodiak Reply #2 – January 07, 2010, 06:57:30 pm Yahoo Message Number: 109063Bill and I spent more than an hour with Steve a little less than a year ago going over every feature inside and out of the Kodiak while we were at The Mothership. We both reported the details on this discussion group...others have also spent time with the Kodiak. If we had the immediate $$ to make the transition from our '06 mid bath to the Kodiak, we'd be in one right now. It is gorgeous, built for the travelers who either full time or close to it (we travel the US and live in ours 7 months a year and do summer vacations in it, too, while keeping a condo in Maine). The finishes and details are classic LD with contemporary updates; Steve did a great (super) job on it from the aesthetics to the technicals.Life is choice...and the Kodiak would be a super one!TinaP 2006 MB "Wild Thing" NE 59 LD 2967 Enjoying Santa Barbara, CA overlooking the Pacific and it's sunny and warm, too[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Yesterday I paid a visit to the Mothership. They have two Kodiaks (that I could see), one on the showroom floor and the other out in the back lot. The one on display was locked and I did not ask to see inside. My 1st impression however was **MASSIVE**!!! As I approached it the top of the hood was nearly eye level on me and I stand nearly six feet. The storage compartments were open and all I could think of was the storage on a Greyhound Bus. It is a beautiful machine but much too large for my liking. Todd said that it's only one foot longer and one foot taller than a standard 30' LD. I didn't ask the price either.Steve S. Mid Bath roof photo's Reply #4 – January 09, 2010, 02:20:12 pm Yahoo Message Number: 109089I would really appriciate seeing a photo or two of a recent (2000 or newer) Mid Bath roof with 2 factory mounted solar panels on it. I would like to see just where they are mounting them these days. I have a couple ideas for mounting mine, but knowing how the factory is doing it might weigh my decision. I looked thru the photo gallery but couldn't find any pics of factory mounted ones. If you know of any in there, point me in their direction, or either post some there or email me direct. Thanks,Rich Gort 2000 MB (with soon to mounted solar panels) Birch Bay, WA

Re: Mid Bath roof photo's Reply #7 – January 09, 2010, 02:49:25 pm Yahoo Message Number: 109092On my '05 MB with factory installed solar panels the picture would be quite the same. Either my solar panels (100 watt) are narrower or the A/C unit is smaller, but I appear to have more space between the panels and the A/C. The forward panel is about 9" from the escape hatch.Alex Rutchka, SE #4 '05 MB
Re: Lazy Daze Kodiak Reply #8 – January 09, 2010, 03:06:38 pm Yahoo Message Number: 109093Steve: I'm trying to find out if they are going to build any more and whether they switch to a Ford chassis. I've emailed LD and am waiting for a reply. I'll let the group know what I find out.Doug
Re: Mid Bath roof photo's Reply #9 – January 09, 2010, 03:16:19 pm Yahoo Message Number: 109094Thanks, Paul, exactly what I was looking for. I don't think your Datastorm unit has any impact on the location, but you do seem to have the optional larger air conditioner. Thanks again,Rich

In a word, no. As we've discussed here previously, LD won't be building any more Kodiak-based units, because there are no more Kodiak chassis being made--Chevy permanently shut down production last July. As far as I know, there's no heavy-duty Ford chassis matching the Kodiak's capacity (the Ford E550 having been discontinued about four years ago), so the factory can't switch the Kodiak-tailored coach body to a Ford chassis. Steve's been pretty clear about this: for the foreseeable future, Lazy Daze will be building the current 23'/27'/31' product line on Ford's E450 chassis. Check our archives for more discussion of this topic; there's been plenty of discussion.Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/

I seem to recall reading an article that said another manufacturer was negotiating to take over the Kodiak line from GM; perhaps International. However, I don't know if anything came of it.--Pleinguy http://www.landscapesartstudio.com/[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Re: Mid Bath roof photo's Reply #14 – January 09, 2010, 06:49:22 pm Yahoo Message Number: 109104Rich, When we were ordering our 02 MB we were considering in motion satellite TV. Steve said that LD would not install it but if we gave him the mount dimensions they would block it in so there would be solid wood to anchor it to. This leads me to believe that if you order solar panels they block for them and if you don't the blocking may be different. However, I believe that if you contact Steve and tell him what year and model you have he will be able to tell you how they blocked the roof for when no solar panels were added, taking into consideration any other optional equipment you may have on the roof.Good luck.Helen
Re: Lazy Daze Kodiak Reply #15 – January 09, 2010, 08:19:00 pm Yahoo Message Number: 109108Even if a replacement becomes available for the Kodiak, my expectation is that the factory will not pursue this line. I had a conversation with Steve in November. He felt that the Kodiak line had been a mistake. Among the things he said were that people had asked for these things but, when offered, there had not been enough interest in actually purchasing to make it worthwhile to pursue further. He seemed to intend to sell the ones he had and to take it no further. My response was that if the Kodiak had existed when I placed my order, I would now be in a Kodiak, not a Ford. I cannot now afford to sell my almost new 27' MB for a Kodiak. Steve gave a wry smile and said, "So how does that help me?" He was right. I can see that there would not be enough of a market to make the Kodiak worthwhile. It is a great design and I wish I owned one but I am happy with what I have. Many of us would be happy enough with a smaller unit at $80,000 that we would not spend 50% more for the Kodiak. Ken F. in New Mexico
