New LD pick-up tips or suggestions
Yahoo Message Number: 109000
Hello:  After a good solid 10 years of pining (and saving) for a Lazy Daze, and visiting the factory I don't know how many times (we live close by) my wife and I are picking up our new MB from the factory this week.  We chose the floor model which was painted with the new paint pattern (silver) which our 7 yr. old son has named "Wavy".  We are very psyched and have planned a short weekend trip later this month.
I have been reading this board since the early 2000's and have scoured the archives, but if anyone has a few tips/suggestions for the pick-up procedure, I would greatly appreciate anything, maybe something you guys wished you would have done or asked during your pick-up.  I already bought a few items: cover, Tireman valve extenders, some Finish First. I read the manual twice and am planning on bringing a camcorder for the checkout.  Thanks to all who have provided so much great info on LDs through your posts over the years here, and I look forward to contributing to this great online group.

Congratulations; you must be so excited!
Ask them how long you should wait before you apply the Finish First; the paint probably needs  a while to cure.
Also, many new RV owners find it useful to spend a weekend in the driveway before hitting the road.  That way, if you forgot something (colander, toothpaste, teddy bear) you can just run into the house for it, while developing your own personal packing and shopping lists.

Joanne, great ideas, esp. the driveway "campout".  The times that we have rented class C's, and were far from home or stores, I always forgot at least one thing that was important : ) thanks,

I am interested in the Finish First comment listed below:

I remember this product from years ago,  when I had a backyard spa it was that suggested product of choice to keep the gel coat in good condition.  Is Lazy Daze recommending this for maintenance of the paint? I am good with it if the answer is yes.. Just asking. Thanks Ed

Ed,  AFAIK the Mothership has not specifically recommended FF as its brand of choice, but many folks on this forum use it regularly.  It is easy to apply, quick to dry, easy to buff off and seems to last a long time.  Other polishes/waxes probably work equally as well.

When I picked up my '08, Lazy Daze was pushing 2180 A.S. Ultra Polymer Sealant by Finish Kare, Inc. "The choice of professionals since 1964."

I was told to not use it for 90 days.
Is it any better then other stuff I've used? Beats me. Next time I feel like polishing the LD, I'll go back to Nu Finish which has served me well over the years.

Many years ago there was a swell of interest in Finish First wax. We even had a dealer or two pushing the stuff on the site.
Being the natural skeptic, I had questions about it effectiveness. Some long-term Yahoo members will remember that I test I ran in 2003.
I acquired a test bottle from one of the member/dealers and then cleaned and wax half of our LD.
The other half of the LD was waxed with a Mothers Reflections that was bought at the local Pep Boys for about 1/4 of the cost of the Finish First.
You can read about this test and the results in Message 28410.
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/lifewithalazydazerv/message/28410?threaded=1&l=1> The test showed no major differences.

This will not be about Finish First; several years ago I made TWO tests and could not make it work for me as it had for others.  I continued using Poly-Wipe, which was the Lazy Daze factory polymer of choice

As for the Ultra Polymer, I probably will continue to use it for its container, which I'll refill with the original Poly-Wipe.
Having only used the Ultra, I would try the original.
Semi-interesting ratings the mfg does on the properties of each.

By the way, after trying what seemed to be thousands of bug removers, each requiring rewaxing after application, I have found a miracle product from http://www.coilnwrap.com/
They have some useful products. I have been pleased with Thedfords' Big Bust. But I would try this on your recco.

Regret to hear of your accident on black ice. Good to know you came out of it in fine shape. A darn shame no one took videos of you hanging upside down.

Dave, you must be doing something different than Gus.  I also only need 2-4 hours to complete the job.  Now, I do let it set with FF on it, for 24-48 houra, if possible.  The actual applying of FF and wiping off, as said above, only takes 2-4 hours.

Wow...  I have never been able to complete the job in less than two days (16 hours). Even with help!"
I'm with Dave.  I slather it on - despite FF and Steve K directions to the contrary - and it takes me about 2 6-hour days to get my 30' done to my standards.  I use about a full can each waxing.  The shine and beading lasts me all year.  YMMV.

Wow, I'm amazed at the range of experiences with FF.  I average 4-6 hours for the whole job, including prewash.  The job lasts a year, but I use a LOT less than Chris, since I just used up the can I bought

--- Washing, towel-drying, waxing and "polishing" my motorhome, a 23.5 TK, now takes me at least 6-7 hours.  Like a lot of other things, it used to take less time, but that was then; this is now! ;-) I use Meguiar's Tech Wax in the paste form (the product is also available in liquid):
