When I slide the thermostat to warmer it was very sticky. I didn't get any heat. If I spray something onto the thermostat contact area to clean them, would that possibly fix the problem? If so, what would that something be? Any body have that problem? Be well. Dale.

A/Cs as old as yours usually weren't connected to a wall-mounted thermostat. The thermostat usually controls the furnace (heater). Can you give us more information/be more descriptive.Chris

There are really only two kinds to be concerned with. Regular DeoxIT is intended to clean and preserve old, corroded contacts. DeoxIT Gold is meant to be applied to new contacts, to keep them from oxidizing. I find regular DeoxIT most useful. The DeoxIT products look costly if you consider them on a cost-per-gram basis, but as I mentioned not long ago, a very small amount goes a long way, so in use they're actually pretty inexpensive.Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/
