I hope this is not too far off an approved LD subject...With the start of the New Year and resolutions made, exercise or somewhat more precise, trying to maintain exercise is frequently on my annual list. Here is my question...For those that full time and those that part time for prolonged periods do you have an exercise program that you use in or about your  LD'? small weights, yoga, skip ropes, etc.
I just read the use of the "WII" gadgets now being used by the authors of the "Geek" blog, hence my question.

--- You might want to read Lynn Difley's site; she offers good information on staying fit on the road:

Another suggestion: make sure that any program of exercise you choose is appropriate for your particular needs and any limitations. I know nothing about Yoga, but, for example, many Pilates "mat work" exercises, including stretch bands, can be adapted pretty easily to life in the motorhome. There's a lot of information online on Pilates, but, IMO, working with a qualified instructor at first to help you design a program for *you* is well worth the $.  You might want to check your local community center for classes and instructors and go from there. Good luck.

For someone my age (74), I found "Yoga in Bed" by Edward Vilga (book or DVD) just about perfect. Then add a 3 mile walk each day. Add a Mediterranean diet and you'll even lose weight.

Hi Smitty,

You might want to try a set of exercise bands.  I just got a set of 3: light, medium, and heavy resistance.  You can do about as much with them as using a bunch of other equipment and they weigh nothing and take up no space.  I am still trying to find instructions for "old people" because right now all I can find is for the young and fit.  But I have found that you can invent your own exercises that would normally use weights or fancy machines with the same results.  They do build muscle.  Combine this with walking or jogging and there you have it.  JMHO of course.

Smitty,
We don't full time but part time for extended periods.  You see lots of people walking and bicycling but we found that those can be influenced by weather....too hot, too cold, too rainy, etc.
We ended up buying a small stair stepper from Brookstone which is small enough to reside between the driver and passenger seat.  We just slide it out and use it.

We like it because you can use

Hi Smitty, Great question for the New Year. I love a combination of yoga (stretching), weights (10 and 20 lb), skip rope, and daily walking (30-60 minutes) once or twice a day, and bicycling. I try to alot an hour each morning to exercise before doing the main events of the day. The nice thing about RVing is there are so many opportunities for hiking and biking that we have found we get as much or more exercise on the road as at home.

I carry a set of those elastic cords (with various resistance levels) with handles that you can get at any sporting goods store.  Easy to stow in the rig.  Good for general toning, not for "bulking up."  Those, plus brisk walks for a few miles, are sufficient for me when we're on the road.  -- Jon
