Solar panel wiring -- December 18, 2009, 10:49:55 am Yahoo Message Number: 108624My rig was in a shop yesterday to have it looked over prior to getting a banks system - while it was up on the rack (they went over it with a fine-tooth comb) - they found that Amsolar ran the wiring for the solars too close to the exhaust piping, resulting in the covering being worn off in a couple places. While it is in the shop for the banks system (it's a 93, developed an exhaust leak and needing a new exhaust manifold - broken bolt & "my" Ford shop manager recommended a header system rather than replacing the manifold & bolts since it will 'just happen again'), they will recover the wiring and re-route it away from the exhaust piping. From day one I had troubles with the r/h exhaust manifold, even before the warranty ran out. It was 'repaired' at least six times before the final time. It was then that we seen that an engine replacement was cheaper than another repair. The new engine never gave me an ounce of trouble.IMHO you should go with the headers.Steve S. Lazy Bones & Jiggs

I also suggest that if it's not too late, i.e., that the wiring is still in the *original postion*, that you take *photos* of the wiring and request that the mechanic provide brief, written documentation that the wiring was incorrectly located and send it to AM Solar. I have no way of knowing if the mechanic was reporting an actual condition with the wiring's location or if he was blowing smoke, but I hope you follow up with AM Solar; in my experience, sloppy work is *not* what I would expect of them.Joan

I can ask them to write it up, and can take photos with my camera when it goes in for the work.Thanks! Helen
