Re: fulltiming Reply #75 – April 30, 2013, 12:48:41 pm Yahoo Message Number: 138765Thanks, Larry. We're going to give it our best shot! How late is Tuttle Creek tolerable? June Lake is certainly a target as well. I have a picture in my mind of what it was like, but there have been so many campgrounds since then . . . If we don't get to that area until the end of June, will it be too hot then? We could reverse the route and hit that area in September-ish. Has anyone here ever been to Grandview campground - one of our target destinations - near Big Pine? It is at 8600 feet, it seems, so should be cool enough for most of the summer. The site says large rigs can be accommodated, but our last experience was well over twenty years ago, and in a Volkswagen camper! Also, I was somewhat taken aback by the warning at the website about the proper procedure if one runs into a "marijuana plantation"! Plantation? Is this a really big problem up there? We moved out of California in 1998; seems a lot has changed in the ensuing years. Our memories are conjuring up the best of what we experienced those long years ago. Hopefully most of it will be repeatable. Gertie knew her way around those areas, but it's going to be brand new for Dorrie Anne !!Virtual hugs,Judie http://dorrieanne.wordpress.com/Today: Roadrunner in Her Nest

A toad is very useful in this area. Being at higher altitude, June lake doesn't get as hot during the day and it cools off at night.Grand View is nice, dry campground but a bit of a drive to get to. We spent New Years there twice back when we own a 4X4 pickup/camper...good memories. There is a short trail out to a point where you can view the Owens Valley and Mt. Whitney. Make sure to go the rest of the way up the road and see the ancient bristlecone pine forest.Larry

Our camper van isn't 4x4, but it has a limited slip differential, which might be of some help. May have to make it a day trip just for the view.QuoteMake sure to go the rest of the way up the road and see the ancient bristlecone pine forest. Shhhhhh - that's a secret!Virtual hugs,Judie http://dorrieanne.wordpress.com/Today: Roadrunner in Her Nest [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Fulltiming.. Reply #78 – September 28, 2009, 01:31:54 am Yahoo Message Number: 106157I am not a full timer, but I do travel with 2 Labs and sometimes 3! The longest trip has been about 3 weeks and we have done this several times. We have a 96 RB and when traveling I put a dog bed in the shower area, which is easily removed if we want to use the shower. One dog likes to sleep there and the other is someplace in the walk way. At night, it is so easy to walk to the bathroom because the walk is narrow and you just feel along with your feet. I'm used to that anyway, because my dogs are all black and I do that at home, too. We have brought a kennel with us at the beginning, but discovered that the LD is the best doghouse! Dog hair is an issue after a short time and I do keep a lightweight upright bag less in the closet. We bought our LD used and it was so nice not to deal with all the up grades. They were already done for us!
