Reefer/Freezer Monitor Report
Yahoo Message Number: 104879
We were looking for a wireless thermometer to monitor our reefer temp while on the road.  Settled on an Oregon Scientific RMR682A, $19.95 delivered from Adorama.  It can monitor 3 outside locations, displays the inside temp and also picks up the atomic clock radio signal. And I think there's an alarm too but we've never used it.
At first I wanted to mount the display in the cab but the battery compartment on the back of the unit made that impractical.  But we realized it was actually a pretty good fit to just put it forward on the dash up against the windshield.
The first of the three outside temp displays will signal with a beeping sound whenever the sending unit on that channel gets to 38 F or lower.  That can be annoying but you can overcome this feature by switching the sending unit to channel 2 or 3, both of which do not have this freeze warning feature.
We eventually decided we'd like a sending unit in the freezer as well, but when I looked another sending unit was the same price as one sending unit and one receiving unit so we just bought another sending/receiving unit for $19.95.  One channel, 2, is the freezer temp and channel 3 is the reefer temp.  You can set the display so that it scrolls through the three channels for the sending units.  Oh yes, it also shows if the trend of the temp where the sending unit is at is stable, going up or going down.
For $19.95 I think it's a great way to monitor the reefer temp while on the road.  Also, no wires to deal with or units to Velcro to walls.  And no, I don't have any affiliation with either Adorama or Oregon Scientific.
