How to set up a file for the posts I want to save?
Yahoo Message Number: 104873
Hello, Call me a dummy - but is there a way to set up a file or flag the messages so that the ones that relate to painting, or roofing, etc. can be saved somewhere in an organized fashion?
I am currently printing them all out for reference - but there's got to be a better way.

Any ideas? Thanks Cathi

Here's what I do (I receive all posts via email using Outlook Express...I'm sure other email clients have a way of doing this, too):
When Outlook Express is open, go to Files at the top of the page, scroll down to Folder and click on New.  Type in the folder name (painting, roofing, or whatever) and highlight where you want it to go (I usually have my folders set up in the Inbox).
Now, when you receive a post you want to keep, right-click on it and click on Move to Folder.  Then highlight the folder you want to save it in and click on OK.

That's all there is to it.

I do the same thing except I use a Google email account. I set up an LD folder and have Gmail filter that tags each Yahoo Lazy Daze email as LD. Then I either Delete or "Archive" to put the email in the LD folder. Gmail has a very fast search of emails, which comes in handy.
In addition, I access Gmail via the web only. This means mail is not really stored on my computer. This also means you can "keep" as much mail as you want.  For example, I currently store over 2GB of mail (on Google's servers) - which is why search is so fast. Google lets you know how much mail you have stored. Mine is as follows:

You are currently using 2413 MB (32%) of your 7358 MB

Very little of this is LD. Much of it is EVERY message in the Fortravel group over the last 4 years, plus all the other business and personal activities I used this address for.

You can also set Gmail up to actually store email on your computer, and store it on their servers.

Thank you both for your replies, but Oh boy -  You just went over my head.
I'll have to cut and paste this one onto a word document then follow along step by step and see if I can figure it out.
I was actually thinking of something along the lines of "flagging" a message with

Why not just use your browser's Bookmarking function and set up topical folders?

Ok Paul, I think I get it.  I will open a Gmail account today - I have been wanting to do that anyway.

It's a good little computer project to add to my bigger LD project.

Thanks aga

Hi Paul, I just set up a gmail account.

I encountered 2 glitches:
I can't edit my membership to include the gmail address.  It only wants a Yahoo address.

So I tried going the other way...

But I can't access the "group" option from the gmail account.

What am I doing wrong?

Cathi,
My account has a Yahoo address for the account and a Gmail account for the address messages are to be sent to.

So it is/was possible. And I setup my Yahoo account only last May
I just now logged into my Yahoo account - and cannot figure out how to access my profile, let alone edit it. So if you can tell me THAT perhaps I can discover how to set your Gmail address as the addressee for your Yahoo mail

You do NOT have to have a Yahoo email address to use Yahoo Groups!  I have several email addresses I can use, GMail being one of them.
You do have to be signed in to the Group, then go to Edit Membership.
There's a place there where you can add a new email address.  Yahoo Group will send you an email to your new email address to which you will have to reply in order to use the new email address.

When you are logged into this Group's home page, look toward the top left and click on "Edit Membership."
On the "Edit Membership" screen, one of the first things you'll see is a section titled "Email Address."  Near the bottom of that section, in parenthesis, is "Add new email address."  Click on that.  On the next page, you should see the current email address you are using, and below that "Add another."  Click on "Add another," type in the new email address you want to use, and click on "Save."
Yahoo will now send a verification email to the new address you just typed in and saved.  In that email is a link which you have to go to in order to verify your new email address.
It's not necessary to have a Yahoo email address in order to join any Yahoo Groups.  I've NEVER had a Yahoo email address, yet I belong to several Yahoo Groups.

Linda,

I have several online accounts I need to log onto from time to time (Verizon, AT&T, Schwab, BofA, etc)
They all have an "Edit Profile," or some such, readily at hand on most if not all pages.
Sadly, Yahoo does not, at least when I log on.  Go figure.  And I did access it when I re-joined the LD group....

Paul, when you are at the Life With A Lazy Daze RV Yahoo Group's homepage, if you do not see the "Edit Membership" link near the top of the page, it sounds to me like you are NOT logged into this group...the "Edit Membership" link cannot be seen unless you are logged in.
If you are, indeed, logged in and you can read all the messages and the links on the left-hand side of the page...files, photos, etc....are active, then I don't know what to tell you.  I see the "Edit Membership" link on all of my Yahoo Groups as long as I am logged in.

Ohoooooo..... You are referring to the Life With A Lazy Daze RV Yahoo Group's homepage NOT the Yahoo page (smacking his head). I'll go to my room now and sit in a corner and try to be quiet......

SWMBO calls me.

I am surprised that no one has chimed in about the Searchable Archives.
 http://www.lazydazers.org/Yahoo/msg_display.php

It is listed on the opening page of the Life with a Lazy Days group page. It is run by some wonderful person who does this as a labor of love for all of us. (Sorry, I can't remember the name, but thank you, whoever you are).
