Wanted to let all and sundry Northern Exposures who attended the get-to-gether at Pomo RV this week that I made it home (Hwy 20 to 101) safely today if not necessarily in one piece.
Just south of Ukiah I blew the inside dual on the passenger side. A pair of Good Samaritans driving a tan Lazy Daze came to my rescue and stayed until I could secure help from my Emergency Road Service. Thanks a bunch gals for your support and consolation.
Tow service out of Ukiah got me rolling again with my spare on the ground.
You may recall that I related the fact that I'd had a flat there in Ft. Bragg in early June. Now I'm wondering how long and how far I had been running on one tire back then because todays blow out was the mate of the earlier flat! Could it be that it was weakened from the prior event???

Very glad that all turned out OK.  For the record, any reason for the tire blowout that you can identify?  Tire pressure, the age of the tire, ect.

Glad all worked out Steve.  Probably a wise move not to go the coast route as you were planning.  Looks like a trip to the Tireman sooner rather than later.

I took delivery in Oct 2004 and so the tires must have been born sometime prior. (I can't read the date code) In May and early June I'd been on a 5 week trip to Canada and was on my way home when, upon pulling into a campground, I discovered the outside dual was flat. It is unknown how long that condition had existed. That flat was repaired with a patch and continues to serve. However, it's running mate was the one which failed, some 300 miles after the initial incident. Perhaps it was in a weakened state because of the previous flat.

I think you're spot on Joe! I'm already thinking out the details of how and when I'll get my behind down to Ridgecrest.

Steve:
Sorry to hear you had a tire problem. As you probably know, check the top of the wheel well for damage. I have had damaged well wheels on two vehicles after blowing rear tires. On my 98 30' IB Lazy Daze I found it after two inverters quit working. The inverter powers the TV in the 98 and is located below the refrigerator behind the lower drawer. There was a hole in the fender  sheet metal which let in moisture and dirt which got to the inverter.
It  was not visible with the fender skirt closed while standing. I had to get down  on the ground and look up to see the hole. Actually Vince found it after the  second inverter failed. I hope you don't have any damage. How did Jiggs do with  the noise of the tire blowing? Glad you are OK.

So glad, Steve, that the recovery went smoothly. We were sure that in Good Sam's and the CHP's hands you would be out of there promptly. But we ALWAYS stop for Lazy Daze and RVW decals!
I second the Tireman suggestion.  They provide so much more than just a tire. Hope you get it taken care of soon and we get to see you and Jiggs again before long.
Linda & Carole 2008 31' TB "GOLD" Lazy Daze :) PS Thanks again for that Lemon Pie!

It sure gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling to know that I've got good friends like you out there just when I needed you most. Looking up in my rear view mirror and seeing that "Lazy Daze" logo was a special treat. A big thank you for caring.
