Propane Refrigerator Problem

Hi,

I'm having a problem when I try to start up my fridge when using gas. The check light comes on after 3 or more tries and then I get popping of the gas and then it will finally stay on after turning the on and off switch.
Could it be that I need to clean something? Not sure what repair or maintenance needs to be done.

Thanks,

Armand

Not quite understanding..If the fridge has been off and the propane shut off you need to clear the system. What I do is once I turn on the propane valve , I first light the burners on the stove top. Once they light and burn a few seconds I shut them off & then turn the fridge on.  Then the fridge gets the gas just fine.

Hope this might help

Sylvia,

Yes the propane is on and I also turn on the stove burners which helps, but I was wondering what type of maintainence or repair I should make not to go through the hassle of starting the fridge on gas. Thank you so much for your advice on the stove to confirm what I tried a few times and does work.

Thanks,

Armand,

2004 26.5 MB. Dometic recall kit installed.
After I store my rig for an extended period I cannot start the fridge on gas. I light the stove burners, the water heater and the furnace but still the fridge burner will not light off except on rare occasions. My solution is to run the generator and the fridge on electricity for about 10 minutes and then stop the generator. (I also exercise the rooftop A/C during this period). The fridge then switches to gas flawlessly. After this process I can then run the fridge on either elec or gas or off and have no problem starting up on gas until the next "coming-out-of-storage" scenario.
I took the  rig to  a Dometic service station, the  tech worked on it all day and declared that moisture was somehow preventing the ignitor from lighting off the gas. He was unable to provide a permanent solution, but didn't mind charging me $72 for labor. I know that's not comforting but, in my case anyway, that's life. :-) If you do find a permanent solution I'd appreciate your passing it on.

Paul, After several years of intermittent service from the original Dometic refrigerator, much the same as you have indicated below, I replaced the old refrigerator with the new Dometic exact dimension replacment from Camping world.
Unfortunatly, I do not live anywhere near a Camping World and had to have a local RV place install it.
Camping world is currently charging $88.65 to do the install. The local place charged $421.00 to do the install.
The referigerator fits through the dinette window without having to remove anything other than the valances.
After the install, we have not had any problems with the refrigerator and it has a 1 cubic foot larger capacity.
Dometic New Generation RM3762 2-Way Refrigerator, Double Door, 7.0 Cu. Ft. Catalog Item # 34424 Camping World price $999..99.

David,
Since my fridge runs well despite the occasional starting problems I'll file your suggestion for future reference. Thanks for sharing.

Dear Armand, I had a similar problem.  I have a 2008 MB, still in warranty.  I began having an intermittent problem with my refrig running on propane wherein the check light would come on and the refrig was not cooling.
If I switched the unit off, then back on, it would start.  This began in March and got progressively worse until by late June it would not stay on for more than 10 or 15 minutes.
all other propane devices ran fine.  The refrig ran fine on electric.
Perhaps coincidentally, the weather was very damp.
My service person performed maintenance service and replaced the ignitor.  Six hours later, the problem was back.  He then replaced the circuit board under warranty and so far, things are fine.
