We don't want an opinion about something to buy. [Tho my birthday is coming up and SeeLevel gauges would be most appreciated] This post is about experiencing what we bought KoKo for - seeing new places.We have been wandering around southern Utah for over two months. We have only used 50 gallons of gas in KoKo. However, we have used a lot of gasoline in the toad, Pelli, driving the back roads. Today, we are parked at 9,050 feet overlooking Cathedral Valley 3,000 feet below. This is the northern section of Capital Reef NP. It's a place where very, very few people venture. It is a decent dirt road to where we are and only five miles from the nearest paved road.We have Verizon service and not so good TV. But, the view is very worthwhile. We are all alone, but not lonely. It is entirely possible that we will not see another human during our stay. Oops, Dorothy just saw another RV heading to Meeks Lake in the distance.Our location is 38 29 184, 111 26 608. If anyone knows how to tell Google Maps how to show a location using lat & long and to then be able to share that map with others, please tell me. It may be a false memory, but I thought I had done it in the past. The new Google Gears is mystifying to me. If I understand it correctly, you have to convert the seconds part to decimal first by dividing by 60. In other words, change the 29 184 part to 29.184 and divide this by 60 to get .48640. Then combine that with the 38 to get 38.48640. You've now got the decimal equivalent to 38 29 184. I thought the same thing and was on the point of posting about it... when I realized that one can't have more than 59 minutes or seconds, so 184 seconds should never occur in a longitude. Well, I read the numbers off our GPS and without giving the numbers a thought I tried to use them to find our location on Google Maps. As several have pointed out, neither minutes or seconds can exceed 60. I knew that, I just did not think about what the GPS displayed. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks to all who tried to help me sort this out. It was John's second post that made it clear to me.He wrote: Quote... [We were on a "goat path" off the road not shown on Delorme] I guessed the latitude as 38:29 which is close to the Garmin displayed 38:29.184. I guessed the longitude as 111:26:30, which is close to the Garmin displayed 111:26.608. [:30 = .500 ~ .608] BTW, the newer Delorme maps show both dd:mm:ss and the Google format of dd:dddd. i.e. 39:15:00 = 39.2500John also pointed out that Garmin can show the lat & long in ddd:mm:ss. I found that option today.New Topic: A 'My Location' feature is built into the Google Chrome browser. This uses the signal from your wi-fi/cell connection to give an approximate location on Google Maps. If I could only find the 'My Location' button. Those that are using Chrome, may wish to experiment with the feature. We have been using Chrome for several months and have not had to reboot once. It's almost like having a Mac or using Unix. Right now, we are way the heck up a canyon NW of Farron, UT at Indian Creek CG. All of the campsites could handle four LD's. Each site has one or more 16 foot tables, two stands for your BBQ, a 4 foot fire pit, a 10 foot serving table and something else that we can not figure out a use for. The cost? $1.50 a night on the geezer card. There is one other site occupied here.
