Possible New NH Campsite Tax
Yahoo Message Number: 103505
In the 2009-2011 New Hampshire budget legislation, which may be finalized on Wednesday and take effect July 1st, a provision has been quietly inserted that would impose the hotel meals and rooms tax, currently at 8% and scheduled to increase to 9%, on campsites. The budget bill defines "hotel" as sleeping accommodations for rent, with the term including cabins, dormitories, lodges, private clubs, cottages, barracks, camps and now campsites.
Irate private campground owners are wondering what happens to campers who have already reserved and paid for sites. Will the owner have to eat the tax? Federal campgrounds would not be affected but state campgrounds would be.
Others are wondering how or if the tax would be applied to other events attended by RVers such as the NASCAR races at the NH Motor Speedway.
